Anybody put a CM in a EV606 shell?

Does it fit?

How does the mic affect the element; the port on the side, the restricted opening at the front?

cheers

Greg Heuman redid a EV M43U for me some years ago. It was low z, he added a transformer to make it hi z, and a volume pot and screw on connector. It's one of my major mics and has been for years.
Point is he may be able to answer your questions.

I'm sure he can. He has answered many technical questions on this forum with a great generosity of his time and know how.

It’ll fit, but I recall reading that the 606 is adversely affected by those other factors you mentioned, compared to say the 605, which is why you don’t see so many 606 mics used for harp.
The M43 shell is very similar to the 605 and 905, just painted drab brown or such.

I’ve also read that the shells take a bit of work to cleanup the inside to prepare for a CM.

I do own a 605 equipped with CM, conversion done by Dave Wren and sold to me by Ron Sunshine about 8 years ago. I did a lot of work with that mic, and still one of the heaviest-sounding harp mics I’ve heard; huge low end, but cuts off the highs rather suddenly. I don’t use it much now mainly because I don’t like the grip.

Yeah, I can see a couple of lugs inside that will have to be ground out for the cm to fit. I thought that if the small entry hole and the side vent port adversely affected the mic that I could easily seal the side port and open out the front... replace it with some mesh.
