Hi

Because I can't add other posts in this my 3d:

http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/5497598.htm

I would switch the discussion here focusing on solid state head and/or new hybrid. Now I'm oriented to a custom cabinet with lil buddy (I've found a good cab maker that will make one for me for a resonable price) and an head....but...which head?!?

Now the possibilities are:

Quilter Mini head, PRO or Microblock.
Exh Magnum 44.
Vox MV50 Clean.

In particular, I'm interested to the Vox. Someone have some experience?

Bye

I have written before about my experience with the quilter microblock. In short i found it to gainy.
So sold it and bought the Vox MV50 clean.
It basically has no gain just volume so it is in essence a small PA that can be overdriven and 'coloured' by pedals.
Like all of these small amps it only gets its full advertised output running into 4 ohms but i have tried it into 8 ohms and it is still loud.
I use a Harpbreak/Boss ge7 EQ/ L/W delay into it.It gets LOUD without feedback when you set up the pedal train to suit.

Best system i personally have ever owned.
Speaker cab is an eminence Rajun Cajun and a Cannabis Rex.I am going to replace the Rex with a little buddy(just to lower the weight and have a really portable system)
I haven't tried the Mini head or the EHX but fellow board members have spoken well of them.

Thanks indigo. In effect after your post I'm pretty convinced to go straight on Vox MV 50 and custom cabinet. I order the head at end of the week...waiting for other opinions and then let's go to the future! :D

Pretty favorable review from Guitrar Worldhere
"While I’m still impressed with new innovations and high-quality products inspired by 60+ year old classics, nothing has caused me to giggle wildly like a schoolgirl meeting a pop idol more than the new Vox MV50 series amplifiers."

6SN7, quilter 101 is one of the choices, but in some users are not happy with this one...maybe the vox is a good choice too...

@Dox, Pro or MicroBlock are a big step up from the other three.
I have read good stuff about those two for harp. i think they are a better product

Vox MV50 Clean arrived some days ago! Compact, lightweight seems a toy! I don't have the cab yet but I've tried it via headphone: very nice, clean sound as expected but no "sterile" and/or "harsh". Eq section seems not very effective via headphone, little contour, w'll see with the cab next week but I have big expectance!

Hi!

Cab arrived!!! Awesome!!! Terrific and versatile sound with my pedalboard and not only!! I'll try to record some sample
(if my son let me the time...) but, in general I have to say:

The Vox MV50 Clean is a little nifty beast! A lot of volume and a very clean sound (if used alone) but not "sterile" or "harsh".
I have to confirm that the EQ section is not very effective but isn't important because this head is intended to use with a pedalboard if you want
different sounds.

The cabinet is a Custom Bluexlab Lil' Buddy 10''.

http://www.bluexlab.com/WP/

I really advises bluexlab stuffs: Massimiliano Manganelli (from Italy) is a killer harp technician (and a killer harp player also! hahaha),
its mics, cabs and harps have a lot of quality!! This cabinet has a custom tweed enclosure with the Lil' Buddy 8ohm 50watt.
This cab is awesome: lightweight (7.2Kg), very projecting, creamy, rich and no spidery sound!

Right now I've tried the head alone, with a delay only (two timer) and with full pedalboard. All combinations sounds good a lot:

Head only: really clean sound but rich using a low-z mic like the fireball and madcat also (red cover). Good for modern sound like Milteau and so on.

Head + Delay: I'm using BBE Two timer as standalone pedal. With this cab the sounds is awesome, very projective adding a little edgy contour do to
the delay. This one give to me more nuances usefull also for a little more colored sound.

Head + Pedalboard: this is the "infinite possibilities" combo's. Clean, chicago and all possibilities in the middle are allowed with a really good
sound IMHO, the limit is the fantasy only.

In any case, if I use my Bluexlab Crystal mic (High-z mic with crystal element: http://www.bluexlab.com/WP/?p=180) I have a very nice and creamy
overdrive sound.

I think I'll made another cabinet for a 2x10 setup!!

SIDE NOTE: right now I have no feedback issue in any configuration using the bluex lab crystal and shaker madcat or audix fireball (I'll try asap others
my mics like SM58 and ultimate SM57)!

Glad it worked out for you Dox.Always a worry that you recommend something and then it doesn't live up to it for them.
That is one very light 50W amp you have there now.:)
If you make a 2 speaker cab and wire them up parallel you can use the 4ohm outlet and get even more volume.
