Has anyone experience with both an original 5e3 Deluxe and a 60s BF Princeton non-reverb and can describe their good and not so good points for harmonica?

I played this 1950 Deluxe recently (I'm not sure if that's too early for the 5e3 or not), and it sounded wonderful. Rich and warm in all the right ways: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Fender/Vintage-1950-Deluxe-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp.gc

And I played this 1964 blackface Princeton a few weeks ago and didn't care for it. It was much more harsh and hot: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Used/Fender/Vintage-1964-Princeton-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp-113473851.gc

PM42- Thanks for the info. Somewhat as I expected. I think the Deluxe you tried was perhaps a 5c3, but not far removed.

I've a few great harp amps but there's a bit of a hole for something between my SJ SC and the 61 Gibson Lance. I know the Lancer is very close to a 5e3 Deluxe and I've recorded with it with excellent results. I "need" something with a bit more grunt and projection for smaller gigs. I'm thimking about a Grammatico La Grange and have emaile with John Grammatico. He tells me a guy came to pick up a La Grange and plugged a harmonica into. Sounded really good he reckoned. I'll be seeing if I can go over and try one out.

If you are in or around NYC, this place has some amazing vintage amps: https://trcrandall.com

I’ve used a 1958 deluxe for years and it’s a terrific amp, though some may disagree. I have never played thru a BF fender that worked for me as they had way too much gain but others swear by them, particularly if they have a tube and/or played three an AFB pedal

I can't answer the ? but the early Fender circuits that use the 6SJ7 tube in V1 are excellent. You might want to look into building a clone, very simple circuits.

I do not use reverb,so,either amp is great for me.good tunes and speaker make those amps sing.

I personally am a 5e3 fan,but both amps are great.
