Anybody familiar with Grandpa Elliott who apparently played the streets of New Orleans and now plays with the
Play for Change band.
I've heard some nice harmonica playing by him .I'd be curious to learn a bit more if you have any info...thanks

edit...I updated the spelling...

(..oh and the Play For Change it's not the money kind)

Hadn't heard of him. Google tells me he has two t's on the end, and he has a wikipedia page and videos on YouTube.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grandpa_Elliott

But that's no new news, just what I found with a Google search. Maybe one of the New Orleans guys, Jason or Todd Greene would know more?

Wow checking out the video that nacoran posted (thanks), you would never know that he's played for some 40,00 people and was the first artist signed by Play for Change.
He's blind now since 2005 . I see one reference that he has been know also as Uncle Remus perhaps people know him by that name.
Glad to see he's successful this late in life, I wonder if he still performs in the French Quarter down in New Orleans.
I wonder how many have walked by him and paid him no mind..looked the other way as they say...

Grampa Elliott used to play on the corner of Royal Street and Toulouse. I have not lived in New Orleans for a couple of years, almost, but I used to go play with him sometimers. I think it was his daughter that used to go with him, or some other lady. He always seemed to know who I was when I showed up. He was very entertaining and friendly.

Nice that you have played with him. Folks always seem to say what a nice man he is.
I had not head of him till about 2 weeks ago when we had a sax player friend from france stay with us...and he asked if we knew the song "Stand by Me" and musicans who "Play for Change"
the basic concept was to bring the studio to the people around the world.
This is the 1st one that got it started with grandpa and others. Stand by me by Ben E King

The washboard player is Washboard Chaz. He playes on Frenchman Street in New Orleans at the Spotted Cat, and other places, with Andy J. Forest, My favorite harp player. I will be playing at a festival with them next October.

That was excellent, they make a great team...workin the crowd to...

..harveyHarp I'll look for some music by Andy J Forest
and see what I can find to give him a listen..
It was a sax player from France who turned me onto Washboard Chaz so his work is widely known in case you want to mention it to him....course he probably already knows that.

Sure he has a case of the shakes . I don't know as to the reason or wether he still has them.

I see two musicians the younger one lookin after the older one. I don't know if he was completely blind then though he is now.
I don't see anything weird.
..you know it wasn't a beauty contest eh...?
