Great musician/songwriter. Also loved his self deprecating acting role in The Postman.

The ranks of the few truly great and important rock and rollers is smaller today, significantly reduced.

Tom Petty's "Free Fallin" used to great effect - at about 5 min mark, but you really should watch the whole thing.

Tom Petty was a big blues fan. I've listened to his Buried Treasure show on XM radio for years and the man really had great taste in music. He would play old rock and roll, R&B, soul and blues records that I grew up with in the 60's. It is my favorite radio show and I hope they continue to air it in reruns. He just came off of a long tour and had planned to semi-retire from the road and to take it easy and spend time with his grandkids. I'm sad to see him go. We'll miss him.

Yep, listened to his XM radio station in the car on a moderately long drive at christmas time a few years ago. He played the coolest rockin christmas tunes for over an hour with running commentary between tunes which was fantastic. I'm not talking about the usual rock/christmas stuff that every rock and roller covers for the season, but deep cut type stuff that I'd never heard before. Truly amazing. RIP-TP.

Iceman, I just saw that last night by falling down a completely unrelated rabbit hole on YouTube. I was watching Puddles Pity Party and saw Tapeface's video in the sidebar.

Last Dance With Mary Jane is a good song to work with harp on.

About 5 years ago I got onstage with the band at Tootsie's, in Nashville. We played Long Train Running' by the Doobie Brothers. They thanked me for not sucking, and I got down. When I went to leave the bar, the lead guitar player kicked me in the shoulder (the stage is high, and right near the door.) He asked what keys I had. I said an A and a C. He said get your A out and get your ass up here. We played Last Dance with Mary Jane. One of the best times I ever had playing harp.
