I was at an estate sale yesterday and picked up this amp for 10 dollars. It appears to be all original. I plugged it in and all the tubes lit up. I was not able to use it yet as I am at work. I don't have the money now, but is this something I may want to get serviced by an amp tech? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are they the ones without a mains transformer? If so, get it checked.

Thanks for the replies. When I come across some extra money, I will ask Greg H. if he is willing to go thru it for me. And yes, Prento, from what I have read online so far, a few mention something about an isolation transformer for the heating elements in the tubes(???). I have no idea what they are talking about. I believe it is the same concern you have though. Thanks again.

I have one and it sounds great.

Just plug it in a power strip with a breaker and dont play barefoot.

About a zillion kids played them back in the day and lived to tell the tale.

You might give Skip Simmons a call - http://skipsimmonsamps.com. If you have questions or work, Skip is probably THE BEST (and most knowledgeable) tube amp guy you'll find - you can ask satisfied clients like Rick Estrin, Kim Wilson, Charlie Musslewhite, Paul Osher, Lee Roy Parnell, Gary Smith, David Barrett, and Helge Tallqvist. And, he's as reasonable as he is knowledgeable.

Yes Bnt, I was in touch with Greg Heumann at Blowsmeaway and though he is a Kalamazoo expert, he recommended Skip Simmons also. I appreciated his honesty. He is a class act. Thanks for the reply--99

Good. I didn't know what "Greg H" you were referring to, but Mr. Heumann is a class act and knows what he does best. Good luck with your amp.
