From the Can't keep loving you album. I'm working on this song and wonder is anyone has the words. I have most of them but would like to make sure I have them right. The words I find online are a different version. If not maybe you can tell me what the last line says. I hear "I pray someday you will be mine", but that would be quite a twist. :)

Johnny Nicholas has an un-orthodox interpretation of this classic. But isn´t it possible that he actually sings "I pray someday you will be mine" and then meaning "true love" or something, not "careless love"?
Very hard to hear, esp with Horton stepping on the vocals -- one of the few instances in harmonica history were I don´t object to that at all.

Thanks Martin. I hope that is what he said. It's certainly a sad statement for the singer considering what he said earlier in the song, but that's how love works sometime. It's one of my favorite Big Walter songs.

This song of unknown authorship has been widely sung since sometime in the 19th century. Lyrics, as with any song widely transmitted in the oral tradition, has lots of variations - there's no "right" set of lyrics. You could probably come up with dozens of variations in a search, and combine from among the ones you like best - as I'm sure Walter did, but without benefit of Google :)

You could always try lifting the lyrics from from Lonnie Johnson. version.
