Hello friends. I recently cut a pair of gaskets from .2mm neoprene rubber for my Promaster. It has improved both volume and response on this harp, but produces a chemical taste and is, from what I've read, not healthy, so I ordered some 1/16 inch silicone sheeting to try again. Before I cut my new gaskets, my question is: is the improvement in performance due solely to increased airtightness, or is the slightly larger air chamber between the reeds also playing a role in its improved response/volume? If so, I might have to go back and buy a slightly thicker gasket to enlarge the air chamber a bit more. Thanks,
Easy

Tightening up even very small leaks often has a dramatic effect, especially on response, but also on volume and rather less on tone.

Marine Band combs used to vary visibly in thickness. The thin ones could be a bit brighter, the thicker ones a bit darker in tone, but I never noticed a difference in response.
