I have the nerdiest case for my Suzuki Promasters. I put a guitar strap on it, and I carry it around like a European carry-all. It is not a harmonica purse.

Go into your medicine cabinet or suitcase. Pull out your black nylon shaving kit, probably from Eddie Bauer or Brookstone. That's my harp case. LOL!

This is a harp case related question: does anyone make a special case for a single harp? I have a pre WWII Marine band that was on my wife's grandmothers brother when he died in the Pacific theater in WWII. I had it restored by David Payne years ago, but I just have it in a Meisterclasse case. Does anyone know of someone that makes a special harp case that holds a just one harmonica?

some cel phone cases are good for one harp and some knife cases too- like for Buck knives. Also, old ammo pouches (forgot the caliber but the rounds are for rifles) found in Army/Navy stores are good for holding two harps. A lot of of these fit on belts. I have a cel case for two harps attached to the strap of a backpack I use. It is at shirt pocket level for easy access. You want leather, canvas, or nylon, so the harps can breathe.

on the single harp subject, the hohner zip cases are pretty good. i think you can buy separately. also, michelle makes single and double cases. i have a soft double harp pouch from her which is the duck's guts for the job. slips in the inside pocket of my jacket.
and my leatherman case works very well for a single harp.

also have one of michelle's 7 harp compact cases which i carry under or over. handy if you are at a jam, dont want to have to keep an eye on your case, and hands-free

I don't play out so don't have a need for anything extravagant but I do have a Seydel harp case (soft) that holds 14 harps. However, for pocket carrying I love the small Seydel soft leather pouches that come with their harps. I don't play Seydels but I buy the pouches for about $3.50 from Musicians Friend.

Okay. Since ya'll showed me yours, I guess I'll show you mine...

It's a Samsonite briefcase from a rummage sale embellished with lots of stickers and a freaking Charlie Musselwhite autograph. Inside the top, I keep a few papers, harp key chart, handiwipes, etc. It holds 2 of the leather 7-harp Hohner wallet cases for my standard diatonics, 3 chromatic harp cases and 3 specialty harps (A and D natural minor for reggae chords and a SBS365 14 hole for some low C). I rarely get those out, but have them if I need them. I also throw my backup mic in there sometimes.

It works really well for me. I throw a handtowel on top before I close it to keep things from rattling around when I carry it. I place it on a music stand that's turned around backwards. These Samsonite briefcases are super tough. It has a lock/key that will keep my kiddos out of it, but I'm sure it'd be easy to pop open if someone ever stole it.

The nested cases might seem redundant but I think it protects everything well and gives me flexibility. When I travel, I often take just one of the wallet cases.

@Arrick I remember those Samsonite attache cases from the 80s, great idea.

My case holds 8 harps: Low F - D, plus Dm. One slot left for a 7th tuned Manji.

Ya know. you can actually fit 9 harps in the Suzuki "purse" unless they are Seydels. For a single harp case, Jeff Spoor makes a really nice leather single harp scabbard.

I've never been able to figure out how to post pictures on MBH, but I did something regarding my harp case that has turned out to be extremely useful. For the past long while, I have used a Seydel hard case to carry my harps, a 25' XLR cord, a 545 Ultimate and an IMT. Some people say the slots in the Seydel case are too tight, but they stretch a little with use. I leave the case open when I play for easy access to my harps. It keeps them organized and it has a very small footprint, so I can easily keep it near me on stage.

But I started to carry a second mic and I wanted to also carry a shorter cord, and leaving stuff in the case when I play blocked access to my harps. I mean, I carry other equipment for a gig, but for jams, except for maybe an amp, I prefer to have everything self contained in one case.

So...I had Studio Slips make me a padded instrument case cover with a padded exterior pocket. It has a handle and a shoulder strap and is not much bigger than my Seydel hard case. The Seydel case with harps and one mic fits inside the cover, which zips closed and everything else fits in the exterior pocket. When I play, I take the case out, take what I need from the pocket, and stash the case cover leaving the Seydel case open near me when I play with unobstructed access to all my harps. If I'm not using the mic I carry in the case, I put it in the pocket of the case cover when I take the other mic out. It is incredibly convenient and extremely practical. And it looks great, too and gives me a little extra room if I need to carry some additional items, even though it's still pretty compact. Very durable and the padding gives everything a little extra protection. I'm very happy with it. Money well spent.

Just got my first Hohner Rocket Low (aside: Love-love it!) The little single case that came with it is surprisingly nice. I've smashed a few in the leather pouch thingies. This is rigid without being heavy. Not sure about the dangling key marker though. Seems unnecessary and clinks around.

@hvyj Hard to decide what to bring. My Susuki case is for walking into the blues club knowing that all you need are your harps. Presumably, they have a SM57 into the PA ready to go. :)

@ValleyDuke: Sure, I've done that. I think the little Suzuki case is very handy for that purpose, or for traveling just to have some harps to take along.

On the other hand, I play pretty regularly and I have a pretty intense schedule on my day job, so there is some practicality for me to leave a case fully packed that I can just grab and go. It's pretty disconcerting to show up at a jam and realize you left your C harp at home because you were in a rush and forgot to pack it.

BTW, Studio Slips is very cool to do business with. I emailed them to describe what I wanted made for an instrument case cover and they suggested a different type of handle that's not shown on their website. It's perfect! Their stuff is not inexpensive but it's very high quality and they pay attention to details. You definitely get what you pay for. I've got some amp covers and pedalboard cases from them, too.

Updated with mycasebuilder hard foam. Initial shape shown in the second pick. Real nice conform-to-shape in the third. I'm going to add this to an earlier post that Todd Parrot started. I used the hard foam and it's a glorious thing.

Maraboy, on the left of the page you'll find a list of site links. Way down at the bottom is the link for "Blues Harp Forum." Put your curser on it and it will show other links within. Click on Forum FAQ and find your answer (and more) there.

But you'll probably have to upload your photo to a hosting site first such as photo bucket or something similar, so you can create a useable link.

I use Imgur. It's really simple. You upload you pic there first, then it gives you embed code you copy/paste. You can even upload multiple photos to make a slideshow like I did above. It's an extra step but once it's there, you can share it here, other forums, social media, etc.

Thanks for the hints how to get photos here. Before trying those I desided test if the link to facebook photos works. If yes then I'll put a picture of my harps case there and remove this. So if this works this is not my harmonica case. And sorry if this causes troubles to somebody. https://www.facebook.com/DustyHoundBb/photos/rpp.130172980781649/255084031623876/?type=3

Here is my harmonica “case”. In fact a harp-belt my daughter made me. Very practical
when playing on the stage with the band. It includes also add on box if more harmonicas
are needed during 45 min set, but never happened so far. Second photo is my harmonica
case for very long presentations. Thanks to Arrick for the hint. I’m using Imgur here.
Very easy way.

The case in my post above is a Buffet clarinet case that I adapted for harps. The case decoration is an orphan cover plate from a 1920's Hohner Trumpet Call tremolo harp like the one on the cover of Butterfield's "Better Days" album. Inside is a tray that I made for the harps and room for a couple of mics and a cord. The tray also has a threaded plate on the bottom so I can easily attach it to a mic stand. Beneath the harp tray are about 8 spare harps and some tools in case of a blow-out.

I'm just using one of those microphone flange brackets like you would see on a podium with a gooseneck screwed into it. I reduced the depth of the threads with a dremel cutoff tool and mounted it to the bottom of my tray. I just use one of those cheap mic stand side mounting brackets and screw it in from the bottom. Unfortunately this picture doesn't show the hardware on the bottom but you can see it in use anyway. I'll try to get a picture from underneath if I get the chance tomorrow.

FWIW, I use a Roland SSPC-1 laptop stand to put my harp case on when I gig. The brackets to hold a laptop unscrew and detach, leaving a small collapsible table with adjustable height and a compact table surface to put harps or a harp case on, with enough room for a drink and a glass of water. Easier to haul around than a mic stand, and unobtrusive in appearance. Also very inexpensive if you comparison shop on the web. Mine has held up pretty well for over 150 or so gigs over 4 years or so, and not very gentle transport and handling. Tt's very light, but very sturdy and very stable when deployed.

For performances, I just open my Seydel hard case with 20 harps in their slots and plop it down on the table (13 keys/7 spares all well organized) and I am good to go. I can adjust the table height for easy access whether I am sitting or standing and have room for something to drink which is a necessity if you are blowing harp for 3-4 hours. Highly recommended. -
