I am filling a few gaps in my keys...looking at Seydel Solist but after a forum search it looked to me as though these harps have the bronze reeds and were a bit prone to tear off or fracture. Does anyone know if that is still the case?

I play a bit of everything if it's in tune and these caught my eye.

I find them to be no more prone to fracture than any other brass reed harp.

I have two that I play off and on, and really like them. The comb has a nice feel, they play well and sound good. Never broke a reed, and they have stayed in tune.

You can always upgrade them in a few years by putting in a set of steel reeds. The dimensions are compatible with the Seidel 1847.

I have no idea whether they've been fixed.
You're question struck a note with me as a few years ago I formed the same impression. When I asked the question directly it was answered with denial of any problem.
However, of the 4 brass seydel harps I've owned, 2 did fail very quickly. I repaired the LowF and sold it a couple of years ago. I believe it's still fine; I see the new owner regularly and have seen him play that harp recently.
The E, not a harp that gets much use in my kit, failed about the 2nd week I owned it. This was years ago and I've not had to repair an E harp since.
I sold all but 1 of these harps. I really wanted to like the solist pro but the real deal breaker was not reeds but rather cover plates which are incompatible with facial hair.

So I dunno. I still have the impression the seydel brass may be less reliable than other brass harps, but it's a very tiny sample to judge by.

I may have to buy a Hammond....what a hardship....haha....I just want to fill some things out in my harps.....Ron will be happy either way...but I'd rather spend a bit extra than buy something I know may be an issue...I like to work on harps just not that much....I know you can dig what I'm saying Super Bee
