Hi everyone, so my 5 hole draw reed got stuck in the reed plate and I got it back out but now it sounds like a party horn. I'm pretty sure it's screwed but I thought I'd check with those more knowledgeable than me before I bury it in my back garden.

Thanks in advance!

It's probably cracked. But maybe not. What kind of harp? Replacement reed plates are available for some harps. If the harp is a quality harp, a harp tech can cost effectively replace the reed. Or tune it if it's not damaged.

But try recentering it first. Take the thinnest blade of a feeler gauge and VERY GENTLY insert it between the side of the reed and the reed plate and carefully run it back and forth along the length the of the reed on each side 2-3 times. If the reed sounded sick because it was binding against the plate, recentering in this manner should fix that.

its probably totally compromised. Now is a good time to use this harmonica for practice tuning/gapping to help you better understand that vibrating reed in all its glory.

Hvyi, it's a special 20, I've been buying all special 20's for my first harps but i think I'll change to Marine Band as they seem to work better for everyone else.

Thanks for the advice

Yes, it's probably fractured.
I do harp work, but what I recommend you do is what I did, and probably everybody here--put that one in a drawer and go buy another one, this time make sure you don't try to bend 5 draw more than a little.
And keep on chooglin' . . .
