Kinda rubs me the wrong way, someone born with a silver spoon trying to do something She thinks is cool which others do because they weren't born privileged getting gigs and contracts handed to them. A classless act by a empty drum. Lou
Call me cynical but i had to laugh at U2. Dressed in disguise everyone kept walking by..then they're told that "this isn't workin'" so they whip off their disguises and whoah, they have a big crowd.Same guys same music so that says something about celebrity not talent. What is thing about busking in the subway anyway...?
I took my wife this month to see U2 at Soldier Field in Chicago. I paid more than I would have liked to for tickets, but I love my wife and it was her 50th birthday.
I went up to strangers in line waiting to get in and would ask them if this was U2's "Pretentious Tour"...
I still don't care for the music but the show was pretty good.

Billy Gibbons sounds killer. And I can bet alot of people didn't know who he was. I can bet Billy preferred it that way so he could focus on his playing without a deluge of fans distracting him.
I think, Lou, that I am misunderstanding you. Are you suggesting that someone "born with a silver spoon" is not allowed to play in public?
I don't think that the blues, or music, should be some kind of secret society that only select people are allowed to partake in. Miley Cyrus, Bruce Willis, Billy Bob Thornton--they all have the right to play their music.
And you have the right to not listen. But I think your negativity and your name-calling and your snobbish attitude are really hurting the overall atmosphere. ---------- Marc Graci YouTube Channel
It's ironic. Unknown musicians busking in the street wish for a little more fame, or at least that more people will stop and listen. Famous musicians long to busk in streets discretely, so people listen to their music, rather than swoon over their stardom. Billy Gibbons seems to have pulled it off. Bravo!
Concerning U2, I loved them in the 80s. But I don't care for what they did after that. However, let's not forget the impact of including that short snippet of Satan & Adam on Rattle & Hum. That got some of the U2 fan base at least a little more interested in blues and harp. And it certainly helped give some deserved attention/recognition to Satan & Adam.

The subway "busking" was impacted by the presence of a TV crew producing and shooting a video of a supposedly unknown performance group. That will draw a crowd regardless of the performers. To a crowd, if it is worth shooting video, then it is worth watching them shoot a video. The reveal to the crowd is predictable and somewhat entertaining.
I liked her version of "Jolene". She does have musical talent beyond what she usually displays. If she performed songs like this all the time I would gladly pay attention to her music.
However, I am not in the demographic to which she is appealing with her music and behavior. Her own song, sung with her by the admiring crowd, doesn't interest me, but that is a matter of my own interests and musical taste, not her talent or lack of talent. The silver spoon has no bearing. She can either deliver, or not. ----------
