Since I have had a preference for using XLR type stick mics for harp for, literally, decades, I have more than casual experience with impedance matching transformers. I prefer the "rat tail" design that has a 6-7" cable between the XLR plug and the quarter inch jack. I have tried and used all different brands.
For some reason, I had the impression that Hosa was a low quality brand and never paid much attention to them. Then, maybe a year or so ago, I tried the Hosa MIT-176 IMT and it is GREAT! Hands down the best I've ever used. Rugged, durable, does not weaken or color the tone and never develops a hum. Also, very reasonably priced. I'm in love!
All you bullet mic aficionados can probably ignore this post.

I think it is a smart idea, even for bullet users, to own a 57 and a 58 and have a transformer on hand. ---------- www.shakeylee.com

I'm also a rat-tail fan, but I've never come across the Hosa. I'm using the Audix with an old SM-57.

IMT's have been a problem for me. I went through 3 in less than 2 years. The hum, or nothing. I do prefer the rat tail to reduce stress on the cable and the amp jack. Haven't tried the Hosa. Thanks.
