Some people are convinced of the necessity of delay, either complementing reverb or by itself. As for me I´ve been going with reverb only, but now I´m trying to find a delay that´s easy to manipulate and serves the harmonica well. Price should be in the 80-100$ region.
Any particultar brands, types, to avoid?
(I know I must test, but music stores give me headache and I always try to minimize time spent there, so pointers are welcome.)

Donner Yellow Fall is great. Mini pedal (google reviews) but has no battery compartment due to size. Use power or make/buy a short 9V battery to power jack & you're good to go though.
Best part is you can get them for ~$30 new.
Donner Yellow Fall
It has a unique IC that gives a best of both world blend of digital and analog characteristics.

My advice is to buy the cheapest one you can find. LOL At one time all the cool kids used a boss dd3. Rod piazza William clarke Lester butler even adam g used one for quite awhile. I think he has since switched to a newer delay.
I have 4 different ones which I almost never use, more often than not I just plug straight in. Mostly because I am lazy. You can find a dd3 for 50.00 dollars used. Rod still uses his

Joyo analog delay is a good one. ALso, you can try the MM delay, or any other Deep Blue delay clon out there.
Good luck! ---------- Sorry for any misspell, english is not my first language.

If you use a crystal or ceramic element you need a buffer pedal first or get a delay pedal with very high input impedance. I think that LW pedals are high impedance input. People used to mod the Dan Echo pedal to higher impedance so it wouldn't suck tone. With a dynamic mic like a 585SAV I did not notice tone-suck, so I find it to be OK. I have another older off brand delay pedal (Electra 606AD)that I like, too, as well as a vocal pedal with delay and reverb for low-z playing to a PA. Delay, especially set to a short slapback, is cool with harp.
Your big choices is true analog delay vs. digital. Since everything sounds different with different mics, pedals, and amps, you pretty much need to listen to know what you like. ----------

Next week a new bella ep will be released the bella ep deluxe. That means quite a few of the originals will be available on the used market. Maybe under $100.00. these work well. Usually the gain has to be turned down To unity to work with a mic.

Had a DD3 years ago. Somehow lost it. Couple years ago I got a LW Harp Delay which I use when we do electric. Mostly though we're acoustic. Either way is ok with me and if I sit in I just step to a vocal mic and make do. My mics are either a Heumann-modded EV m43U or a Shure 585. ----------

Harpsucker did a comparison about 6-7 years ago: https://youtu.be/wVoq-YF0STs
I have used the MXR Carbon Copy with nice results - it is good quality. I use a cheap Artec Analog Delay, which works fine.
Of course, the Lone Wolf is a good choice.

Thank you guys. I will cross myself and start that hopeless walk through the music stores this week.
@1847: WIn your picture, what do you call that thing that holds a battery and powers the pedal? Looks like something I´d REALLY need!

Here's a warning then: delay pedals often use a lot of power, so running off battery can be a disappointment.
The one I have is a perfectly good - it's a digital simulation of analogue echo. But only lasts a matter of minutes before the battery voltage drops too low to run it. The battery is not exhausted, just doesn't have enough EMF to run it.

Thank you MTG, I will bear that in mind. I have a few pedals and not enough adaptors so the solution with battery seems attractive. But my Hall of Fame reverb pedal, for instance, eats battery like crazy, and I will be careful with the delay as well.

i bought a dying battery simulator to use with the delay. it drops the voltage and and works to kill feedback. allowing you to crank the volume on the amp. sort of a poor mans kinder pedal.
i bet that is in part what is happening with the kinder pedal.

It's true that in the eerie world of guitar fuzz box modding (germanium diodes and all that) I've read of people using a dropped battery voltage to get some desirable effect.
My delay pedal just stops working though. Undesirable.

Hey Martin........multiple pedals warrant a larger adaptor with a 'daisy chain' ..........batteries will ALWAYS let you down!

Rubes: In the end, just about *anything* will let you down. But one of my pedals (Joyo) is a downright wonder when it comes to using very little battery power. Of course a daisy chain would be interesting, but I fear that it costs a bit.

Martin - you mean the Joyo American Sound? If so, yes! I think it's a perpetual motion machine :) Not so for the delay pedal.
I believe (but don't know) that the AS is analog, and can be designed to use very little current. Whereas the digital pedals always require a certain amount to drive the processor.

I'm really liking my Joyo American sound + Donner Yellow Fall delay combo. Here's a little live jam recording I did today with it. It's going through a Tsunami mic on a Hohner Flex rack, which I just got recently from fantabulous Rockin' Ron. Harp is a Manji Dm Natural. Guitar is Steinberg Synapse Transscale.

I've been messing with this a lot. My main delay has been a LW but I recently added a MXR Carbon Copy. Blues or similar stuff get the LW. I used to do 75% blues but these days it's more like %10 so the sparkly utility of the Carbon Copy has been awesome. Make sure you try it (with the modulation button off).
