I've been considering getting an amp stand to get my amp angled and off the floor to hear better on stage. This is my first experience with any amp and I've learned everything mostly hear on this forum. I have a vht sp6 and I know there's only so far i can go until I need to mic it. I recently swaped the stock tube with a 5751 and that made a huge difference. I've been trying it out at a local jam.

So next I want to get it off the floor and see that difference. I've also searched this forum and read past posts and using crates etc...which I may try first anyways, and I was looking at stands in the style in the link below but the lowest they can go is 16'' off floor and I'm thinking I may want to go lower. I read somewhere in a review that it could be rigged to go lower, but I cant find that again.

On-Stage Stands RS7000 Tiltback Amp Stand

So has anyone used this style stand? Any thoughts or recommendations?

that is a decent stand... my buddy uses one with his blues jr.
works perfect. i used it once with the bassman, could be a bit more sturdy with a bigger amp but it worked just fine.

why would you want it to go lower? its good to get smaller amps up
so you can hear it.

Looks very similar to one our guitarist uses for his deluxe.
I'm ambivalent about the tilt.
Ditto 1847, dunno why you'd want to get lower.

Thanks guys- Glad to know the stand has worked for someone. I didn't know if I needed it lower or not. Still kinda a newbie. So thanks for asking me that! I guess I don't. Good to know.

Suberbee- you got me thinkin of getting my amp off the ground in another post.
Appreciate the response!

How's that height for the champ, 1847? About right?
I've been sitting mine on a 412 cab and it seems about right. Yours may be a little higher in that rig, maybe better?

I would typically only use one stool and set my amp sideways,
and just set the champ on top of the amp.

the trick to using a small amp is to get it up as much as possible.
lately i have been using only the bassman, as my champ has a rattle
that i can not diagnose. i am betting it is the power tube socket.
it is driving me crazy.... "its a short drive"

1847, superbee and anyone else- when getting your small amp up as high as possible, I'm wondering is it best to have it at a slight angle or level- or the option so do both- depending on personal preference and venue?

Reason I ask is if I did decide to get a stand some have the angle non adjustable (like the one I posted) and some do, there a little pricier.

I have this stand and it's solid and works well with my Princeton Reverb amp.

Depends where you are in relation to the amp, and also whether you have an audience which needs to be able to hear your amp (i.e. if they are hearing you from the speaker in the amp, or if you're sending the output to a PA).

If it's just you listening for your amp, tilting is ok. But I think if you want an audience to hear your amp it's better to not tilt.

If you are micing or running a line out, you could even try having the amp in front of you, down low but tilted to face you like a PA monitor wedge. Might depend a bit on the space you're working in.

But also, I personally do not tilt. Lately I'm using small and medium amps a lot, in practice room with band, full kit, guitar using 40w HR Deluxe, and I'm hanging quite well with the 5 watt amp sitting up on a cab similar to 1847's photo. Last week I used a twin 8" cab with a kind of 'lone wolfed' Valve Jr amp which was pushed a bit by the levels, but last night used a stock Vibro Champ XD and it held its own very well.

So I picked up a stand for a good price at Guitar Center. Tried it out today at a jam that I've been going to. I was fortunate this time to have a pretty decent stage volume going on with the other players. And so I may have heard myself ok even without the stand. I was standing pretty close with it behind me I was able to turn around and adjust myself easily. Definitely I heard myself much better than when I did not have a stand. A couple people were giving me some feedback which I asked for. One guitar player friend listening thought it could still be a little louder which I think was true but I didn't want to seem too loud on stage. both other harp players that were there-there both very good- and one in particular who I like his style a lot- (I asked for his thoughts) thought that I should keep the amp on the floor because of the sound amps get from being on the floor, bass response... One player thought that it sounded a little separated from the rest of the band and would blend in better on the floor. The player I spent a long time talking to was telling me how he thought if I put it all the way in the back and I was in front of it but towards the front of the stage about 10 feet or so would be the best and the sound would project.

I know its up to me to figure out what works best for me and I wish I had more time to try a couple different ways but at the jams it's just a few songs. From this forum I see that there is great success in people raising their amps up. I look forward when I can be with some friends of mine in bands and spend more time trying different ways out.

I also have an old Mouse Amp that I got going again so I might try that 2 amp Adam G thing sometime.

And dang I forgot to turn on my delay
