So you are a member here in good standing. You are registered.
You have signed in with your user name and password. You would think that that would be enough.
But no, you still need to enter the captcha. You have done that, that should be enough,
But no, you’re post still disappears. It is no wonder that the traffic on this site is dwindling.
It is quite difficult to post here, lots of hoops to jump thru. Just the way it is, nothing can be done.

What I find is that using a lot of extra words will ensure that my post will get past the filters.
Much of the time, I am less concerned with whether my message gets thru immediately, and I am confident that the monitors here will clear any filtering in due time.
I agree that it is an inconvenience, but look how easy it is to string words together in order to pad the message.
Thanks for you attention.

Sorry guys, it's the software. I keep track every day of how many posts are marked as spam and every so often I pass the list off to support to try to convince them they need to fix it, but they are unmoved. (For most of their clients, sites with only occasional posts, it helps keep client's message boards stay clear. For us it's a giant pain in the butt.)

Unfortunately, since our site uses a custom forum software, which means it's really, really complicated to try to port it to more modern software. I've looked at it, and it's not 'volunteer guy with a little bit of computer background' territory, it's 'expensive software consultant' territory.

Rest assured, I restore all the spam messages (yes, all of them... some are duplicates but none of them are actual 'spam' because it's been a couple years since we had 'real' spam. I have to do it for each of the five forum/sub forums on the site.

For what it's worth, if your post disappears once, unless you change it the filter will almost certainly hit it again, and worse, since it's a 'smart' filter it will start to think your username is associated with spam and be more likely to mark other posts you make as spam.

I can attest that every post that I have posted that has disappeared, has been restored by the next day. I thought it was magic fairies, but now I know it was just Nate. :-)

I had a short post about Filisko's Teach In, where I complimented Michael Rubin, but it got eaten. I know Adam is adamant (pun intended) about not changing the forum software, but there are much better options out there.

I don't pretend to understand how the Internet 'works' but i have never had a post disappear..is that because i am not in the US?
Very odd.
('course this one will vanish)

Philosofy, it's not even so much that Adam is against new software, it's that it's not easy to port all the old stuff over. In past discussions we've looked at it, but to port things over to a bigger/better forum software platform requires a piece of porting software to be custom written to access what we have and move it over, otherwise we'd a) lose all the old post b) lose all the registrations of everyone.

On top of that, you also have to do things to make sure your page views get transferred over on search engines correctly. Neither of us have that kind of software expertise, and the cost of getting a professional to do it is not small.

at some point this antiquated software will become obsolete. and you will be forced to
update. it may be best to just start over now.
