Kyle Rowland, the 23 year old blues harp phenom from Sacramento, was just booked in jail on five counts of attempted murder. It seems that he started shooting at a party. Kyle was a Contra Costa County sheriff deputy, on his first year probation period.Rowland was a protege of Rick Estrin.
I saw Kyle play many times in Sacramento, and he always seemed like a nice, respectful young man, in addition to being a terrific p!ayer.
Hard to understand. I don't see how he can avoid doing serious hard time. A great future wasted.
In other words, this thread is the last thing that is contributing to the bad publicity that shows up when anybody searches his name.
This is legitimate (big) news in the blues harmonica community. As majordomo, I'll let this thread stand for the time being and the near future.
If at some future point, a google search for Kyle Rowland shows that this thread is the only bit of bad news on p. 1 of results--i.e., if those screaming local news stories disappear and we're the only thing that's besmirching his name--we can certainly take this thread down. Meanwhile, it's actually good, IMHOP, that we're able to talk about this here.
Meanwhile, maybe we can post some clips that show what a good player he was and is:
He plays some great stuff in this third clip. He's got a fondness for slow blues grooves. His voice is pretty good, too, although he slips a little out of key here. But great harp.
