No harmonica. Just all musicians in service of the song, a different genre from the original that works, acoustic playing balanced by the musicians themselves, no ego - just great music, all the stuff I love ... and a great band concept and band worth wider recognition
The musicianship is excellent but this doesn't work for me.
There is too much of a contrast between the feelings I associate with bluegrass and the ideas of this song. They don't go together. It gets in the way of telling the story.
I agree it is an amazing cover and a great band, but not this...
I understand that alignment with the total tradition of a genre may get in the way of appreciating new attempts with different types of song, so understand your comments.
Maybe I could post this on Modern Bluegrass chat list? ---------- The Iceman
I have been a big fan of Iron Horse for years, both their originals and many covers. Does it match the exact mood of the original? Not at all. Do I still think it's great? I do!
Iceman, do I charge you the $10 I spent downloading all these Blue Grass covers and standard Blue Grass music today!! :-)
It was great and I enjoyed them all. Thanks. The "Steve'n'Seagulls" videos after were really great. I am a fan of taking instruments/songs/etc. to new places and this was great.
There is this Punch Brothers cover of The Cars Just What I Needed, (I will try to post the link...: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtVUQmC4RNo ) which shows great musicianship and he kills on the banjo.
I posted this before but looks like it got removed for some reason.

Does this have the same feeling of the original? No of course not, it's bluegrass. I still think it's great.

I really enjoy hearing something different. Seems to me there's a lot of room for folk instruments to play outside the traditional lines of Appalachian and Ozark tunes.
Here's another fun example . . . Ken Bloom doing Robert Johnson on his bowed dulcimer (to my knowledge he's the only guy who builds these)
JSalow, the spam filter got you. It's automated and annoying and gets a handful of posts just about every day, but we restore them from the spam folder every day too. (It did, once, actually catch a piece of spam. Once.)
I really dig all the posted vids. Long time fan of original songs played in a different style or even tweaked slightly to fit the musicians personality. And that uke vid was killer. You could tell he was really having a good time playing it. ----------
almost as good as William's "MacArthur's Park" recording.
Hey, you Shatner fans, he shows up at the end of the Netflix "Haven" series (a pretty cool show - 5 seasons) as the very evil entity Croatoan. It's kinda fun, cause for many episodes all you see is fog moving through woods, people running away screaming, growing unease...etc. Then, he finally shows up in human form as William Shatner, in suit and hat and acting kind of charming, but.... ---------- The Iceman
Rontana, his spoken voice part was fine, but when the singing started, wow. I was reading something in another tab. I couldn't get back to this tab to make it stop fast enough. I think my ears are bleeding!
