Hi all
I just thought I'd drop by and say hello.
I kinda dropped out of playing harp much as I took up Ukulele and Kazoo a couple of years ago!
I still carry a set of harps to Open Mic nights so I can jam if the opportunity arises.
Good to see lots of the old names still here.

Happy Christmas to you all.

Hi Lumpy, Ukulele eh? Me too but can't get beyond playing in first position yet. My fingers just don't do those clever chord gymnastics. Hope you are well. Merry Christmas.

Tooka2, have you found the ukulele underground? There is a great forum called seasons of the ukulele.

Jbone I have given up harp, just don't play so much, I need to get some more rack harp with the uke though. I often jam if I get the chance, but need to get a few new on is really.

**Typo** I have NOT given up harp!!!!!

Harp2swing don't know where I would meet Mr vlong.

Uke is as an addicting instrument
My advice is learn on a tenor or concert size and back into the soprano once you are comfortable chording

@goldbrick
That's like saying learn from them to to diatonic
Or learn an alternative tuning then go to richter
As I understand it the tuning and hence fingering is different on the different ukes. I love the soprano, a proper uke.

Nope concert and tenor are tuned exactly like a soprano-they are just a bit bigger and easier to finger thats what guys like Iz or Ohta -san play

Baritone is tuned like a guitar and is a whole different thing

Hi Lump! Glad to hear from you. I'm still here too, mainly just being a wallflower these days. Still play harp everyday, but running out of topics I'm interested in discussing, as well as time now that I'm a big shot professor (lol!). The uke bug bit me too, as well as guitar, synth, and cbg. Whew!

Hi Guys, I know this is a harp forum but I just wanted to throw my two penneth in regarding the ukulele post by Goldbrick. I'm learning Uke and have found the little bit of theory I learned from playing harp has been invaluable. Trouble is I still can't get my fingers around playing the Bb chord yet. Goldbrick suggested learning on a Concert or Tenor to get the fingering right then go back to the soprano. The only trouble I've found with that is the concert and tenor strings are under more tension than the soprano and causes really saw finger tips for me. Plus, I'm also having trouble due to the extra spread required for some chords due to the fret spacing being larger. Just thought I'd throw that in for anyone tempted to give uke a try. It's good to see the old school popping up on here again. Greetings to the Prof (isaacullah) and the rest of the gang.

I used to have problems with our guitar player. Sometimes he'd play guitele. He has pretty bad ADD so we'd usually do the hammering out of most of the song before we'd bring him in, and I'd already have a harp part worked out and he'd almost always steal enough of it to drown me out, then the band would complain I was stepping on his part.

I finally realized if he had his guitele out I should reach for a low tuned harp so we weren't completing in the same range. (I was also accused, a couple of times, of stepping on the melody on songs I wrote on harp. I was like, 'Wait, you thought that was the melody? No, that's the harp part. You figure out a melody to fit it!'
