I try not to talk music with politicians nor politics with musicians. It invariably ends up in disappointment.

The Jon Gindick I know is a very intelligent empathetic soul who has helped a lot of harp players get better and shed stage fright - including me. And has helped a whole bunch of poor kids in Tutwiler Mississippi to have access to instruments & training. It's the singer, not the song!

Not sure if Cleese actually wrote this or when, but funny just the same....http://www.theearthchild.co.za/hilarious-yet-profound-letter-us-john-cleese/

I know nothing about Jon Gindick. I do know he is entitled to his opinion.

I shall be in trouble for this...

John Wing, a great Canadian comedian and blues harmonica player opined long ago,

"Canadians and Americans are not that different. A Canadian is merely an unarmed American with health care."

.......and we're off. Ten posts in and, hey you Americans are armed (and I guess presumably dangerous) yet un-insured. And people wonder why Trump won.

I know John (casually- through SPAH, his being a customer, etc.) My first encounter with a harmonica was thanks to his book and cassette tape. He's a good guy. A little weird (I'm sure he would admit to same, aren't we all?) but a nice guy. I was stupefied to read this - not because I don't support his right to his own opinion, but simply because when it comes to musicians in California? He's in a very small minority. I don't agree with him. But I know him well enough to know that if I sat down with him over a beer he would be articulate in explaining his reasoning and listening to me as well.

I suggest we leave it at that - this thread should be locked.

Well, before this thread gets locked down, I would like to say--

It's great that Jon got a chance to articulate his views, and I am glad he has given a start to more than a few harp players.

Today I proselytized for harmonica--I was practicing chromatic outside a hospital, waiting for my wife. I got a compliment from someone sitting nearby, and so I gave her the old run down on short harp (just happened to have one of those on me too).

The more people experience this instrument on a personal level, the more folks will give it a chance.

Although I doubt if any Trump supporters will take it up based upon this article!

After reading the article, I don't see what there is to get up in arms about. One of the greatest freedoms we have in the good ol' US of A is the freedom of thought AND speech. Anyone doesn't agree with what all Jon said, that's ok. Disagreeing with ones viewpoint does not necessarily make one a hater or a bad person. Simple as that.

overly political people turn me off (on both sides of the spectrum)

+ if you have a brand you are offering to the public, alienating a bunch of folks with your political views will generally be bad for business just sayin'
