I normally don't try to promote big name bands like the Stones- like they really need it. but for those who don't know their first new album in years will be a tribute to old school blues artist like Little Walter. the album will be ripe with harmonica licks- the track list of now is follows 1. "Just Your Fool" (Originally written and recorded in 1960 by Little Walter) 2. "Commit a Crime" (Originally written and recorded in 1966 by Howlin’ Wolf - Chester Burnett) 3. "Blue and Lonesome" (Originally written and recorded in 1959 by Little Walter) 4. "All of Your Love" (Originally written and recorded in 1967 by Magic Sam - Samuel Maghett) 5. "I Gotta Go" (Originally written and recorded in 1955 by Little Walter) 6. "Everybody Knows About My Good Thing" (Originally recorded in 1971 by Little Johnny Taylor, composed by Miles Grayson & Lermon Horton) 7. "Ride ‘Em On Down" (Originally written and recorded in 1955 by Eddie Taylor) 8. "Hate To See You Go" (Originally written and recorded in 1955 by Little Walter) 9. "Hoo Doo Blues" (Originally recorded in 1958 by Lightnin’ Slim, composed by Otis Hicks & Jerry West) 10. "Little Rain" (Originally recorded in 1957 by Jimmy Reed, composed by Ewart.G.Abner Jr. and Jimmy Reed) 11. "Just Like I Treat You" (Originally written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Howlin’ Wolf in December 1961) 12. "I Can’t Quit You Baby" (Originally written by Willie Dixon and recorded by Otis Rush in 1956) 2 songs are already up on iTunes as bought of the ablum preorder. don't know about anyone else but this is a must have for me- legends of rock paying tribute to the legends of old- Count me in!!!

Some may say "if you're not very good at playing the harmonica, Little Walter is about the last guy whose music you should try to cover."
Some may say "hey, maybe this will bring Little Walter some well-deserved acclaim."

It's not being released until December 2nd-- Then we will see if it's a hit or a miss. Artistically, it seems to be more of a good time than an attempt to improve on the original--and I'm sure no one here begrudges this band the opportunity to have a good time. I'd like to see more folks play harmonica, this surely won't discourage anybody!

mick jagger is the most successful harmonica player of all time.
he has sold more records in one month than little walter did his entire career. just to put things in perspective. ---------- .

I am guessing a studio player like Charlie McCoy has probably been on more records than Mick actually playing harp
Bottom line is nobody care s about the current Rolling stones anyway except for Mick and Keith ( Charlie probably doesnt give a rats ass)
They have not improved their skill set in 20 years

i dread this album. jagger is a terrible blues singer and an awful harmonica player. he could make his own kind of music, with richards,as a blues and soul informed rock and roll musician, but his blues tributes are travesties , parodies almost. ---------- Ted Burke

Well, Ted, it's probably going to be easy to avoid this new release--the chances of it re-energizing the blues scene are remote, as is airplay--and I never listen to anything on the radio but KPBS and KSDS, they aren't likely to play any of it either. Just pretend it was a bad dream . . .

i just heard a cut... was it hate to see you go?
kinda surprised how good it was.
not great mind you, but not bad for a garage band.
i once heard the rolling stones called the world's best garage band..... in the world's biggest garage.

I still contend that if it weren't for Mick & Keith this site probably wouldn't exist. If ya doubt that, search out on YouTube the episode of Shindig where the Stones introduced Howlin Wolf to his own country.

Sundancer, that's accurate enough for that audience and the time but not for the genre's larger influence. Countless artists across decades count the blues fore-bearers as central influences. Credit Mick and Keith, certainly.

Actually credit Brian Jones-- he seems to be forgotten these days. He was the bluesman with harp and slide. Mick and Keith more more R and B, early rock inluenced

That story is a lot bigger than the RS. They made a contribution, but had they not the interest in blues performers would still have happened. Butterfield would still have happened. The RS were a product of that interest, not the creators.

Here's Mick's quote from Rolling Stones Magazine about his harp on Lonesome & Blue.
"If I had known I was gonna have to do this," he says, "I would have spent a few days practicing, because sometimes I do that, sit at home and play. It's quite easy, really; I mean, you just put on whatever, a whole bunch of Muddy Waters records."
No wonder so many on this board are dismissive of Mick's harping - he couldn't be arsed to even practice before they recorded. The word that comes to mind (at least the one I can write and not get booted from this site) is Hubris. Actially, I just thought of a fitting expression for it - "he's taking the piss". A Brit will explain it.

Not that I'm a Brit meself you understand, but - if he's "taking the piss" in the quote above, that means he really DID practice before the recording and that what he's telling the interviewer is just a put-on. In other words, Mick is -
wait for it
- "taking the mick."

Anything that might make new fans of the blues is a good thing in my opinion.
