I got an email this morning from a customer of mine who informed me that he's recently been unable to get the "preview" files to play when he accesses my video lessons on Tradebit. Dubious, I tried it myself and found that I was getting an error message (with Firefox) and nonworking players (with Safari).

I emailed the head of Tradebit and he said that they were working for him.

I'd be grateful, when y'all get a moment, if you would access the following three links--the links that work for the Tradebit head and don't work for me--and let me know whether you get working previews. Also please tell me what kind of device you're using, and what browser:

Sonny Boy's Blues

Counting and Playing 12 Bar Blues

Playalong Sessions

Thanks.

Windows 8 using Firefox in Germany (in case it makes a difference) Getting told - in German - "video cannot be played, as the data is damaged".

Tried two different browsers.

Firefox for Mac (version 46.0.1) comes with the message "the video can't be played because the file is corrupt."

However, Safari for Mac (version 5.1.10) plays all three just fine

Hey folks:

Tradebit has informed me that the only way I can get the previews for all my lessons to play is to create and upload previews in a new format. They won't tell me which format will work--just that videos saved in an old version of Quicktime WON'T work for some people.

I've just uploaded a preview in AVI format. Please do me a favor. Hit the following link, then hit "preview" just below the orangey "DOWNLOAD NOW" button and tell me what happens.

When I do that on my 2013 MacBook (in Firefox), I get prompted to download the preview file. It doesn't open automatically in a Tradebit player. When I download it, it then takes a few seconds to convert. Then it plays perfectly.

I'd like to know what happens for you. Please specifiy the device and browser you're using. And thanks in advance.

Firefox on Windows 8 - Opens a window showing the type, origin, and name of the clip, and asks me which program I want to either open or save it with.

Hmm, that's a behavior I've never seen...

I get the download, but when the download opens up WMP to play it it closes again just as fast. I don't even have a chance to hit any buttons on the player.

2007 Macbook Laptop
Firefox version 47.0 for Mac

Much strangeness on my end.

Clicking the link brings up the Tradebit page.

Clicking preview brings up a page saying "Activate Quicktime"

Clicking "Activate Quicktime" brings up the video. It plays but without audio (My audio works on other vids - Youtube, etc). Turned off Ghostery and my "Do Not Track" gizmos, but still no audio.

Grain of salt on this, for as noted above, my laptop is almost a decade old

I use Safari Version 9.1.1 on a brand new iMac 21.5 inch computer using 10.11.5 OSX el Capitan. The download happens and then tries to open in Quicktime but can't. The is the warning I get (QuickTime Player can't open "Raw-Beginners.update-clips.avi".)

OK, I've swapped out the AVI and swapped in a WMV file. Please check it out. Works fine on my Mac, but I've got Flip for Mac. I'm not sure if all Macs have a Windows Media Player or the equivalent.

Update: Chrome downloaded the file and it opened in quicktime.

The WMV file plays fine on my old Macbook (again . . . using Firefox)

I did get a message saying that my "Flip for Mac is out of date" (I didn't even know I had Flip for Mac). But, that apparently didn't affect anything
