Just wondered if anyone knows the group, they were pretty big in Australia and N.Z. I guess. If so, what do you think of his harp work?

Just discovered him, an Australian guitarist asked me to play with him on I'll Be Gone

I used to have a transcript for I'll be gone. Maybe I still do. It is in Jim conway's book I think
That song is all I know of Rudd on the harp...but it's Fairly high on the homegrown 'classic' pop song list in Australia. Maybe top 100?
What do I think of the harp work...it's a distinctive part of the song, like in love me do...not very demanding to play but well-conceived I think. It's as inseparable from the song as is the lyric.

"I'll be Gone" has THE iconic Australian harmonica riff. Play it at any show, you'll have the audience on their feet. I know this for a fact.

I think Bee captured exactly how I feel about it. Not a tremendously impressive riff, but I can't imagine the song without it.

Distinctive, as Bee says and very popular, as Tony says, including on the streets. The familiarity strikes a chord. It predates my time in Oz, but Jim Conway told me to play it out busking and it would make me some good money and he was right.
It's a good example of what Jim calls a signature riff. He said he had one in each song, to prevent them from all sounding the same.
