well i dont want to be no dirty rat, so don't call me your lovin cat no i aint going to be your low down dog no more gotta tighten my grip, down the road i go
i saw you on rampart street found out who you went to meet i aint going to be your low down dog no more gotta tighten my grip, down the road i go
you tell everybody that i'm to blame and you know that you are ashamed no i aint going to be your low down dog no more gotta tighten my grip, down the road i go
One of those forgotten slang terms."pack my grip" was also lyrics in an Elvis tune,'I Feel So Bad.I was listening to Slim Harpo's 'Blues Hangover' and heard the word "stem"(Guess I'll go back on the stem"). Dug a little bit and found it refers to a street or "main drag",like Maxwell St. or 6thSt.(in Austin). That was the only reference I had heard until I recently listened to Smiley Lewis's 'Blue Monday'("and I'm out on the stem to play")Fat Domino made a hit of the song ,I noticed a lot of lyric websites that get it wrong, not too surprising there.
Dunno if this will help any but this is highly reminiscent of two old blues standards, "Shake It Up And Go," and "Bottle It Up And Go," both done by many artists.
I love the many and varied Piedmont versions of Shake It, epitomized by this one by John Jackson.
Also an old favorite is Bottle It and Snooky did as good a version as anyone I know of.
