Why can't blues bands learn to play at this volume level today??

I know - because it reveals everything about the talent and ability of all the players - no place to hide.

Nice.

wow what a guitarist. i love it when people treat the guitar like it's a voice and not a thing to shred on (or even just play melodies and/or rhythm on)

as for playing too loud i am as guilty as the next guy. when i try to get the band to turn down
i usually get the stink eye, look who is asking to turn down "eyes roll" oh brother.
i try to compensate by " not playing" it is not necessary to take every fill. less is more.

this band is obviously well rehearsed, they are all underneath the entire time. a very stunning display of talent.

Nice guitar - although it sounds to me like his singing is off key

Cornell DuPree was a very melodic player

Suffering from old geezer-itis? Me too. If the session is at my place, I strongly push for the drummer to use 'hot rods' or the equiv. They cut volume by quite a bit and he can still hit hard if he likes.

How can you tell how loud they are (or aren't) from the video though? It looks like the drummer is hitting pretty hard (regular sticks) and they start rocking out a little later in the performance.
