Hi--
I am doing a seminar this year at SPAH on this modification of standard tuning on the chromatic, and thought this was worth demonstrating. Any questions, post here--although I am also going to post this to the slide harp forum.

Can it be done with a file or do reeds need to be R&R'ed?

I used to remove material near the rivet to lower the reeds a whole step, but I don't recommend that. Now I use silver solder at the tip, and when you do that, you leave a "back door" in case you decide to go back--all one need do is to remove the solder.
BluTack (or whatever it's called here in the US, poster putty?) will also do the trick.

This tuning works well if all you do is use the chrom in 3rd position, since no draw notes are altered.
You can tell I don't recommend that either, can't you . . .

Have you ever bebopped a chrome for someone who didn't like it and went back to solo?
I can't imagine it, but some people do t like chocolate , or the swamp...

Yes, I am getting a couple of harps in the mail from a fellow soon, he wants the E chromatic restored to standard and he wants a 56 changed to bebop.
I restore the tuning for free if folks don't like it.
