I'm gettin' around to trying this song. I never had the joy of doing it when it was popular. After listening I realized I was counting 17 bars and 9 bars.
Or
16 plus 1
8 plus 1

I just want someone to say, that's right. (or like me, " gee, I never counted it before, I just felt it ")

Here's a link to what I'm going to hand out. Key of G, I know it's not the original key, no need to talk about this key.

Cannot attest to the number of bars in the song. However growing up in the westside of Jacksonville FL with the "One Percent" (Skynners original name) I know the bar "the Jug" well. Not for music - but all the high school kids went to their drive thru because they did not check your IDs.

so i am thinking to myself why on earth would you play this in G?

the vocals duh!

here is another version, i would argue is as good or "better" than the original: that does not happen very often almost never.

it is in C # the band has tuned down a half step
to accommodate the vocals

@1847

Thanks for the feedback. Now I feel OK with the count

Key of G is for MY voice. When I do it, it sounds like a country tune, not a rock tune.

And that C# version, may have been for the guitar players as well as the vocals. Some guitar players just prefer that 1/2 step down sound.
