Amen from me. It has bothered me for a while, so much that I stopped reading any thread that starts that way.

There really is a very simple alternative: just ignore those threads that don't interest you; that's what I do.

By the way, if you'd bothered reading mine - just the opening short post - you would've known that it had nothing whatsoever to do with whites v blacks: the title was a deliberate ploy to discuss a different matter entirely, one about which you can find any number of books on Amazon.

Furthermore, I think that one of them has 129 posts, so some people obviously do want do discuss such matters.

129 posts means nothing when it is just a couple of people arguing back and forth.
I'm with Harvey.

Is that really so difficult?

HarmonicaMick, the point is that it's fairly easy to avoid one post, but when they start taking over the whole front page you are, by definition, pushing other topics off the front page. Some people like arguing that stuff, and I don't mind it on occasion when it stays in a single thread, but when it starts pushing everything else off the page we start having problems.

I probably should have locked the second thread and had people take the debate back to the first from the start. By letting the second thread go off it sort of opened a floodgate up. The forum is about blues harp, not politics. An occasional off topic thread is one thing, but when it starts hurting the larger ecosystem that is this forum we have to take action to bring things back to topic.

I'm going to post this, and then lock this topic, because although I think it was meant as a tension release it seems to be being taken differently.

Everyone take a deep breath and return your seats to the reclined positions. This flight will be accompanied by the dulcet and cranky tones of blues harmonica. We will be sailing at 35,000 feet. If you look out the window to your right you can see Muddy Waters. Passengers on the left side can see Chicago. There are no parachutes, but the captain has told us that the turbulence has passed and we should expect a smooth flight the rest of the way in. There will be connecting flights to Funky Town and other destinations. If you need assistance attendants will be glad to help. The peanuts are complementary but avoid salt as it may dry your mouth and make playing the harmonica uncomfortable. If you are experience dry mouth, tell your doctor and ask the cabin steward for a complementary beverage. There is a charge for alcoholic beverages, but they are available. The fasten seatbelts sign has been turned off and there is no line at the restrooms. While you may recline your seat backs, please watch for the person behind you's knees.

Clear skies.
