Hi folks,

I'm very excited to announce that my Balkan/Turkish/Desert -influenced world music album is finally released and available for FREE listening and download for 10$. It features all-new compositions by yours truly and captures the "arab-harp" period in my musical life that I have spent years finessing. Hope you like it!

Harmonically speaking, I'm surprised to notice - in retrospect - that the album has almost no cross harp at all. I think I use at least 1st, 3rd, 5th and 8th positions. The only cross harp I can think of is in #6 as a backing instrument for the Turkish instrument cümbüs I'm also playing. The 1st position approach featured in #9 is something at least I have never quite heard before...

Also, this is my debut as a chromatic harpist! (featured in #5, #8 and #10)

Always glad to hear comments & feedback!

Most excellent. Love this type of ethnic music - especially the unison playing. Sharp.

Great tone and vibrato. Fearless as to accurate bending techniques to create the notes you need.

This and Brendan Power's Indian styling are really refreshing.

What a great album! The music is great and the harmonica fits in perfectly. Can you post the harp keys / positions for each one of the songs?

Thanks.

J-Sin, I started streaming your album to check it out and am still listening. This is one album where the harp is just part of the music rather than standing apart as a feature. I'm not sure I'd even identify it as harp right away, if I didn't know that's what is was. I see Gus said this above. Anyway it's great music. Congratulations!

@J-Sin, I really enjoyed your viking metal, and I really enjoy this as well.

My only problem is that I really (really) dislike categorizing anything non-western as "world music". Yours is always just great music!

Finally had a chance to sit down and listen all the way through the album today. This is quite simply fantastic stuff. I listen to a lot of Arabic music, and this is the real deal. Even if you are not into Arabic (or "World") music, you should buy it. It will give you a really different context for how the harmonica can be used. Bravo.

Thank you all for your positive comments! It's nice to hear that our music both surprises and pleases the ear. Now that our current material is on tape, it gives me freedom to experiment further and focus on new music.

@yonderwall: I too find the concept of "world music" problematic. Yet I also think it might be usable as a descriptive term if we agreed on what it means. I'm not using it to refer only to "non-western" music -- the blues is world music too. What I understand by it is music that is insipired by any local/folk/indigenous music culture and fusions it with other (perhaps more contemporary) elements. Granted, it's primarily a marketing genre and a VERY very vague one, it might also be a helpful one, if it helps people find new bands, gigs & sounds etc.

Also, I have a problem calling my music just plainly "Arabic" or "Turkish" or whatever, as I'm not a native of any these musical cultures. I'm just a visitor and enjoy visiting many cultures. Thus, "World".
