Has anyone ever seen one of these? It was manufactured by C.H. Meinel-Schlossmeinel in Klingenthal, Germany and is stamped with the "Ballon Brand" trademark. It's a miniature 5-hole diatonic that measures 1 1/2" long by 11/16" wide. The bottom is stamped with a picture of a hot air balloon and the initials D.R.G.M. I could not find any picture of one on line including John Whiteman's Harmonica Anthology, so I assume it must be a pretty rare bird. It appears to have been manufactured somewhere between 1850 and 1920.

Here is another harp that looks like it was made by the same manufacturer. (From what I could read on the harp).

Of course, it's quite possible that is also a Hohner though. There are so many companies they bought out that any time I find something by 'someone else' it usually turns out to be Hohner.

Thanks, Nate! I tried following the directions on the forum for posting pictures, but I must have missed a detail. Anyway, a fellow harp player in Vermont showed me this miniature that he has had for some time but couldn't find anything about it on the internet. Apparently they were produced as a novelty toy harp for children. The same company made other novelty miniatures. It is fully playable, but at this size it requires some serious tongue blocking!

There is a guy in Vermont who has paid local artists to make him single slot harmonica holders. I've seen some pictures online. They are pretty cool. They've got more going on across the river in Vermont than just maple syrup. :) At one point there was a guy up there who made titanium combs.

Are they like belt type holders? I know one fellow with a Native American heritage who can make anything out of buffalo hide. on Saturday, at Mayfest in Bennington, he offered to make me a harp vest out of black, supple buffalo, but he hasn't given me a price yet.

There have been several local feature articles on him. Here's a short feature with a link to a video that shows some of his stuff. More art than practical, but pretty cool.
