(no affiliation, etc)

I know he gets lots of mention on here already, but it's difficult to overstate the quality of Joe's work.

I recently got a set of several Stage Is delivered. I am not a stranger to high quality custom harps and do setup work on my own (and previously for others) to a pretty high standard.

The response of Joe's harmonicas is ridiculously good and sometimes feels like cheating. They play extremely evenly and freely - like the reeds always want to be swinging, if that makes sense. Responsive harmonicas sometimes have a feeling of more resistance and can feel a bit tight when played louder but no sign of that.

Bends feel extremely stable, solid and comfortable with no edginess. As Joe says, it really does seem easier to play all the bends in tune. The tone is rich and harmonically full and crunchy sounding.

They deserve attention to technique of course and will give feedback on what you're doing right or wrong better than a stock harmonica.

In addition, the service and ordering process is faultless.

Also worth noting that Joe Spiers is one of only 3 Hohner affiliated harmonica customisers. Details at

http://us.playhohner.com/service/hohner-service/hohner-affiliated-customizers/

Included amongst this group is Neil Graham from Australia, who has prepared my custom harmonicas since 2002. I echo all of the comments above re the benefits of instruments prepared by master customisers.
