If any of the newcomers to modern blues harmonica haven't heard this, have a listen! It was an ear opener when I first heard it forty years ago, and still resonates. Tone is everything. Papa Lightfoot made his best songs with a G harp, key of D. No one would call this shrill:

I've been a big fan of Papa Lightfoot since the 80's he is a subtle player that may not be obvious because his harp is big and in your face and he definitely was listening to horn players and a jazzy feel as well... Mean Ol' Train/The Honeydripper. Also he did a fair bit of side work that is recorded http://www.wirz.de/music/lightfrm.htm . In fact years ago I heard an MP3 of MBH very own harp legend Barbeque Bob doing a wild live version! Man would love to hear that again...hint!
Yep IMHO Papa Lightfoot is up there with the two Walters and Sonny Boy 1 and 2!

Should add, this is one of those tunes along with his 'Wine, Women and Whiskey' & 'When The Saints' that new Blues players should learn and try to make your own as its a show stopper!
Also check out the Natchez Trace Lp.

Oh yes! Papa Lightfoot...vocals harp and passion.
I play his stuff on my stereo ,loud, when ever the wife is out or away..
I just wish he had recorded more.
@marine yep i rank him up there too,but his style was so totally different to them that he almost needs his
own sub category..First punk harpist?

Most of his best stuff is now on Spotify...crack a beer and tune in.

Love it! Always have. What's cool is that this song lends itself to interpretation though different genre-flavored "lenses," if you will. It can be acoustic, amped-up, bluegrassified, and so on. It is durable that way and also long-lasting in its original interpretation -- the marks of a true classic!
