This is probably the best advice on jams I've ever seen. Applies equally to virtually every playing situation.

Many years ago I saw Derek play in a tiny little dive (Naples, FL) called the Yoko Ono Ballroom. Half the place was a Japanese restaurant and half was a blues club (also saw Leon Russell and Gatemouth Brown there). I was stunned by his talent.

Especially since he was all of 11 years old.

Every time I hear him I think of that little kid doing things on guitar that just seemed damn near impossible . . . and he's only gotten better and better

strange.. my first post did not show up when i put it on.. for several hours.. so it thought it just got lost in the ether..

yeah, if you ever get a chance to see him play, i would jump at it. Saw the Tedeschi Trucks band a few weeks back and it was spectacular. In spite of all his technical ability, his ability to transmit emotion is more important. My friend had a chance to jam with him a few years back.. when he was in his early 20's and even then said he has "an old soul" Here is a great show if you are interested in what he can do.

an argument could be made that Tedeschi is the current top blues singer out there, either sex.. certainly worthy of taking up the reins in the tradition of Bonnie Raitt
