Here's a preview of my new album, Going Somewhere, to be released June 9th. This is the title track, which features Robert Mercurio and Jeff Raines from the great NOLA band Galactic, as well as Jackson music stalwarts Chalmers Davis, Denny Burkes, and Ted Gainey. You can place a pre-pre-order on the Bandcamp site and get this song now. Soon I will announce preorder on iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Like the drum intro - sucked me right in.

Pretty razor sharp harmonica stuff...interesting and innovative.

Good job.

Thank you Iceman! Appreciate your taking the time to listen. The drummer is a local, Denny Burkes... he's fantastic. He plays with an acid-jazz-ish group called The Vamps, as well as a great indie rock group called The Steve Deaton Three (their new album is great and is on Bandcamp). He also did the art direction for the album, using my wife's photography. Harp is a mix of 3rd and 5th positions, with a fair amount of OBs.

Thanks again.

Nice work here, Scott. I hear the influence of Mark Ford, no?

Ted: Thanks! Although I very much like what I have heard from Mark Ford, I really haven't heard much of his stuff so it would be hard to call him an influence. As far as harp players go, I'm definitely influenced by Levy, Butterfield, Popper, and our own Mr. Gussow, among others (including a lot of chromatic players like Toots, Stevie, and William Galison). But I am equally influenced by other instruments.

I do hear traces of the others you mention, but the point is that you have an attack that is unique. Like Ford, you enter a phrase off center and a have a certain jump cut quality to your runs. Your fills, flourishes and rhythmic enhancements come in unexpected places but are musical and choicely executed. That appeals to me. The song, though, dragged a bit for my taste--the chorus seemed over extended and the middle part was just a shade preachy. The musicianship, though, is wonderful. I look forward to hearing more of your work.
