Our Blues club is(finally) getting its own PA system(the old one was crap) The new one is made up of 2,15-D latest model Wharfdale Titan PA speakers coupled with a good quality mixer owned by one of the members.
As a harp player i use the PA alot ,either from a miked up 5watter or direct into the PA via a L/W harpbreak.Never really happy with the sound as the old PA was a bit underpowered to keep up with the rest of the jammers, and the speakers were way past there use by date.
Any advice as to getting the best out of these speakers from a harpists viewpoint? Can i mike my amp into them and bypass the PA head and/or plug my harbreak straight into one of them and use it as an amplifier?
We'll have them early next week and i'm just hoping to go along armed with some prior knowledge rather than jumping in cold so to speak

You gotta jump in cold, try everything yourself, tweak those knobs till they fall off, etc.

Remember, "No one knows what you think they do".

Self discovery is the way to go.

I wouldn't advise running directly to the powered speakers. You'd have very little control over your output since the level on them will be dialed to spec for the mixer. However....you might look into buying a small, inexpensive powered speaker of your own. Just something with Class-D amplification behind it. That way you could run your LW to it and set whatever onstage volume you might desire, and then you could also run the line through to the PA board for support in the fronts.

I wouldn't suggest bypassing the mixer. I assume other musicians will be using mains as well. If you have stage monitors I would suggest bypassing 5 watt amp and going direct out of harpbreak into mixer. Like H.K. suggested a powered monitor to use on stage works great as well.

No matter how you do it - go into the board. Mic the amp - go into the board. Vocal mic - go into the board - harp break go into the board. Otherwise you are creating a nightmare of whoever is running sound - the speakers also probably only have one input. Depending on how it goes with monitors or the sound you're looking for. You could also go into a direct box from the harp break and then run the parallel out of the direct box back to your amp to make sure you can hear, and may help with feedback issues from just using the stage monitors.
