Most people sing songs about it but I have lived this life for over 40 years and it is time to move again. On this level I feel akin to the old bluesmen. This will be the 8th state and 3rd country I have lived in so far. I get a calling to move and go with it. As usual it is a blind move with no job, family, bare bones $, driving it. I sang this song about it this morning. Walter

Well Walter, best wishes on this your next journey. Hey, I thought you were moving with your wife, and going to go into the pizza business somewhere? Was it California? You know they're in a most serious drought, not to mention the well known fact that they're all gonna be falling off into the sea here before too long. Maybe you want to re-think that bit.
In any case, Mr. Gypsy Man, fare thee well.

A good one . . . and I'm especially fond of the lyrics. Good luck, Walter.

It always struck me that the drive to a new stomping ground gives a sense of freedom and joyful anticipation. The settling in is good for a little while (sometimes more than a little while) but eventually it's time to go.

The cold-turkey move has many merits, but it does get tougher the older you get. I figure I've got at least one more to go.

thanks guys. I hit the highways at 16 an haven't stopped in a place more than 11 years. This move will be a big one on many levels. I am leaving the teaching profession after 22 years, moving to Reno,NV, buying a home, opening a pizzeria, and will be moving our personal stuff, and a lot of pizzeria stuff, including a couple mid 1960's holy grail gas deck pizza ovens. We will be opening a NY style pizzeria in Reno once we incorporate and find a space. I will be continuing my work with training people with disabilities for entry level work via the pizzeria. All in all this is the biggest move of my life.

Going on 60 and my wife 62, makes it pretty multi leveled. Most of our moves were with my music gear, and our stuff in a small trailer on back of our 63 Cadillac. 25 years of that moving was easy in many ways. There was simplicity in that way of moving but lots of stress once we got where we were going. This time will be lots of little stressors leading up to it and less big ones when we get there. Getting older has its perks! Here is a link to our pizzeria to be. I was raised in the business in NJ and it has served me well over the years. Walter

Whew! I'm glad it's not California!
(I can relate with the big transition at a later stage of life thing. We've just put our little homestead out here in rural NM on the market. Been here 24 years. Built it ourselves. Not at all totally sure what's next. A big deal).

Travel safe, Walter.

harp-er: That must be emotional having built the house and lived there so long. Life is short and I respect you for following your heart. You travel safe too. Our house is in contract and we have to be out June 10th. Walter

Walter, My wife and I are about two hours north of Reno. We managed to secure ourselves a piece of heaven where no one can ever say they "were in the neighborhood" and dropped in. Reno is our go to "big city" for shopping, building materials etc. When you're up and running, we will most assuredly be patrons, so make sure you use this forum for a little flagrant self-promotion so I know how and where to find you.

Buzardero: I look forward to meeting you. We will be called Smiling With Hope Pizza. My drummer of 20 years lives in Reno so I plan on doing a monthly show at the pizzeria-no food that night, just music. It will be a dream gig being the owner- no club owner to hassle with, no concern with ticket sales, no other acts will be booked but me, and the audience can take me or leave. Walter

Yes, it's been very emotional Walter. We've run through them all at different times, and no doubt will again as this moves forward.
Still, we seem to have at least an idea of a direction. More, as they say, will be revealed.
Hey, if I was still eating things like pizza I'd sure want to try one of yours. I'm originally from NY- born in the Bronx, grew up in Yonkers- so I guess I'd still know a real pizza when I ate it. From your photo gallery it looks like you know one too.

Great sound as always.

I've recently been playing along with with a 71 year old hobo that I've known for a while. He's been transient for 2 years and does a lot of his own original & brilliant country and gospel material. He picks on an old Alvarez that he carries in one hand while he lugs or rolls his belongings in the other. My place is a destination point for him, among many others in the West, and I see him maybe twice a year.

The other nite we segued into improvised lyrics and I immediately thought of you and Spontobeat. So we went to the computer and I loaded some of your stuff while explaining your method. He loved the hell out of it. You now have another disciple and fan, albeit one with no interest in developing computer savvy. But his word of mouth has considerable mileage.

Reno is a great destination. I had a blast while living there and eventually found my kind of gold up the hill a bit from there in Virginia City. The whole region is a musical oasis and I have no doubt you will make a mark.

Moves into the unknown can be stressful but the adrenalin rush (and necessity) has always trumped any downsides for me. When I arrived in Reno I had everything I owned in an old van and left with pretty much the same load after 10 years. I don't regret moving back to CA but I miss NV often even after some 20 years.

Godspeed.

harp-er: You are on a man after my own heart. Thanks for the inspiration to keep the faith and a fellow NYC area guy too!

JustFuya: that is a fascinating story. Is your friend being documented? Thanks for sharing my music and his response-made my day.

Walt: He gave me permission to document his story and most of his music (not all) but I'd be scrambling. I'm more of a listener than a story teller.

As soon as you establish your pizza place and share the address, he'll be bopping in within a year of my notifying him. Coincidentally, his goal this summer is to hit & run Ohio so he can visit the NFL Hall of Fame.
