Anybody have any experience with wireless headset mics? I saw a blues guitarist last night who was using one, and, in combination with a wireless setup on his guitar, it gave him incredible freedom to roam the room.
I should clarify: I'm talking about a wireless headset mic for VOCALS, not a wireless setup for harp.
But I'm also interested in the latter thing. I once had a wireless setup for harp; I didn't like the sound, which was too compressed and noticeably different than non-wireless. But I could be convinced.
Anyway, I'm mostly interested in the wireless headset mic for vocals.
No comment in regards to actual options for these mics, but just a general comment that I always think that they make performers look like snake oil salesmen. Or Steve Jobs (same difference). They just seem like a weird accessory. My opinion is that if you are doing stuff that occupies all your hands, thne set a mic on a stand and do your thing. Don't worry about "walking around in the audience". That's a bit of a cheap trick anyway.... ----------
I have seen Paul Oscher wander the room, and in fact walk out the front door, walk around the building, and come back into the room through the back door, all while hooked up wirelessly both for his harp in a rack and his guitar, and he played both instruments continuously all the time he walked around. He wasn't singing while wandering, but he was for sure playing harp and guitar. And had monster tone on both the whole time too. So it can be done, and it is a very entertaining trick when done well, which Paul of course does.
These are condenser mics. They are fine for acoustic work, but can sound very harsh if driven to distortion. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
