Hi folks!

My world music trio Sigi Tolo will be releasing an album full of original harmonica music soon. Influences come from the Balkans and Middle-East, but with dark, barbaric and bastardized twists. It's a story about malicious baths of the orient, processions of broken prayer robots, and aural courts of the aurora that never existed.

Enjoy this first cut from the forthcoming album!

"processions of broken prayer robots"

I'd buy it just for that line!

Sounds great too;-)

Dig that sound, J-Sin! There are a small handful of truly progressive harmonica players that I listen to and feel inspired about the future of our little instrument. You are one of them. And now there are broken prayer robots, too. :)

This is the real stuff! The harmonica is a great choice for this sound. A harp can covey emotion without having to sound like Big or Little Walter! This is refreshing, energetic.

I enjoyed the live version of this cut you shared a while back, too!

I am enthusiastic about your upcoming album!

Cheers!

Against the back drop of this music and to the average ear the harmonica sounds not unlike a snake charmers pungi.

That was pretty cool. Only problem is that I got a little carried away. Started dancing around in the kitchen yelling Opah! and smashed our plates on the floor. Seriously though...that was pretty cool.

2chops, I've got one piece I play on a harmonic minor tuned harp. When I play out at open mics it gets everyone clapping- the problem is, the way I play it it's supposed to speed up every time and that confuses all the clappers, and they end up throwing me off. :)

Nacoran...I can sew how that could end up sounding like a train wreck. My taste in music is so varied, I forget to look up this kind of music until someone posts it here or when I hear it in a movie. That harp is a wonderfully flexible instrument.

Thank you for your kind words, much appreciated!

It has taken a lot of effort to accomodate myself to this kind of music. It's starting to pay off. There are tunes on this album even I couldn't imagine playing a few years back.

We'll be putting another tune out next Friday. I'll keep you guys informed!

this is just fantastic!!!
i play with a klezmer ensemble at the beginning of each month.we are lead by a trombone player(he leads the group)and have saxes, clarintets, fiddles, accordians ,guitar ,trumpet, viola, but no harp.

i tend to play guitar for it,and harmonica afterwards.

sometimes a fiddler from berlin, who played with me every sunday for years, comes to the states and shares with me different gypsy music he studies.

but,i am used to hearing lots of instruments with this type of music. the west philly orchestra ,for example, plays balkan dance music with tons of brass.

i like your stripped down version!!

your recording is very inspiring!!!
