Ok, this is a link to a Facebook page that has a vid of some musicians playing THE THRILL IS GONE at the blues jam where I've been part of the house band. The bass player, keyboard player, tall guitar player and me are from the house band. The sax, electric violin, drummer and guitar player who is singing are sit ins.
I think the vid is a useful illustration of a couple of things:
1) Fifth position playing. The tune is in B minor and I take a solo on a G harp playing in 5th position. Nothing particularly inspired, but it goes on for long enough to show how how 5th position sounds.
2) The importance of leaving enough space to let the music breath. The sax player and violin player are both competent on their instruments, but don't know when not to play. They both keep stepping on the vocals and guitar solos as the tune goes on making everything sound messy and driving the singer crazy.
Scroll down. I imagine that as time goes on and she posts more stuff on her FB page you'll have to scroll down farther to see the vid, but as of now you don't need to scroll down very far.
I scrolled down, but I still didn't see it. I figured out how to post FB videos (I think) and posted a quick explanation in the other thread. If it works I'll add it to the how to page.
Well, for lack of anything better to do, I shared the vid to my Facebook page. Get on Facebook, go to JOHN POTTS. When you get to my page, click on the picture on the top right of me playing the harmonica and scroll down a little bit. The vid is called "Tore Down Blues Jam with Special Guests" Lemme know if this works.

This may not be your proudest moment in relation to technology but I´m sorry to say that:
1) There´s no picture of you on the top right. (There´s one to the left, yes, but it yields precious little in terms of videos when you click on it.)
2) There´s no video, or video link, whatsoever on your FB page later than Jan. 2014. (I scrolled down a year or so back -- there could be more earlier material ...)
3) You have now devoted six (6) posts to this, and yet no results. But by all means, don´t give up. You have whetted people´s appetite.

Yeah, I don't really know how to post stuff. But did you try the URL?

There's a picture of a friend of mine playing bass with Jr. Wells, then below it is this vid of the jam. I dunno, this is the best I can do.

@Goldbrick: The vid I have been trying to post is on Facebook not YouTube. The tune you posted is great, but it's not me.
@martin: Maybe it has something to do with privacy settings. I designated it "share public"
@mastercaster: yeah, Mudfoot stopped by the jam the week before the video was shot. Very traditional style player and very nice guy. How do you know him?

"The vid I have been trying to post is on Facebook not YouTube."
If you did post it on YouTube, maybe we could watch it.

The easiest way to show it people is probably to click 'share' on the video and then share it no your own timeline. Then make it's privacy setting 'Public' so anyone can view it. Alternatively ask the girl who posted it originally to make it's privacy settings 'Public' so anyone can see it.
HVYJ I can tell you the second long link that you posted, did work for me Thursday night. Today the same link returns an error. So you were not crazy, things change. When I did watch, I looked for ways to "share" or "link", but found none.
How do I find you on Facebook? I want to look at your time line :)
There definitely no video viewable on your page John. I suspect maybe she has to set her privacy to 'Public' as well for that video, before it can be viewed as the video was originally on her page. I've had the same problem with a video of mine that someone shared on his timeline. His friends couldn't view it until I made it 'Public'.
Other than that you could try to download it (right click, download should work). Then upload it to YouTube on your channel (presuming you have one of course).
Mudfoot is a real good guy, very happy to hear he still out and about : ) ! ... We met in Toledo ... my mom lived there, I was there for a visit and found his band performing .. he let me sit in .. and we been 'friends' since .... however it's like 6 or 7 years since we had any contact .. Give him my regards when you see him ! I live overseas, my mom passed, so, it's not likely I'll visit Toledo again.
Cheers, Aaron

If anyone else manages to see this video in the wild, sneak up on it quietly and see if you can catch it and take down it's URL. Now I'm confused though, because if some of you are seeing it and others aren't that means the problem is more complex. It's a puzzle, wrapped in an enigma, dressed up as a riddle, wearing a conundrum as a hat. Are any of you who are able to see it on his friends list, or good at trouble shooting?
@kingobad: I'm not sure if any of the most common 6 positions have any greater "dynamic range" than another. BUT, there is a difference in approach when you play minor in 4th or 5th position.
In 4th and 5th you have your minor 3rd, 6th and 7th WITHOUT HAVING TO BEND. If you start bending randomly you will throw yourself out of key. Also there are few available chords. So, in general you need to make your musical statement through note movement rather than through wailing on bends or chugging on chords. One must play notes not sound effects. BUT, especially in 5th you can work all 3 registers which I did not do in this particular solo.
5th sounds pretty muscular riffing out along with the guitar on the coda of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN/ GYPSY QUEEN and plenty dynamic soloing on WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS (which btw is Phrygian ) but those are not the recorded tune.
The singer with the dreads who was directing traffic told me he expected me to take a third chorus and kick my intensity up a few notches which I probably should have, but didn't.

I saw the video Ok when it first went up,then the next day i couldn't then yesterday i could!? I'm not in the States ,don't know if that could make a difference? The Harp didn't come over loud enough and i got the feeling that the jam was a bit of a train wreck in that there was too much going on. But hey that's Jams for you.
@indigo: Absolutely. The sax and violin were very undisciplined and kept playing when they shouldn't have making everything a mess. Not really a train wreck since the time didn't fall apart.

It's not my band. It was half jammers and half players from the house band I'm a part of for this weekly Sunday jam. Only the bass player is from my regular band. I'm also fortunate enough to gig with two different duos. And I'm lucky enough to pick up occasional side man gigs of different kinds.
I don't consider myself to be a great player or anything like that. But I can get around on the harp in several different styles of music, and I am comfortable playing in different kinds of minor keys. But I think what gets me the opportunities for stage time is that I understand how to play with other musicians. And that has more to do with knowing when not to play than how good you are when you do play. So, I sort of feel like I don't get paid to play harmonica so much as I get paid to stay out of the guitar player's way. Count my blessings.
