I just ordered a Hohner Hoodoo 5w tube amp for $175.00, new never out of the box. I'm guessing that is a good price, but I was hoping to get some reviews from anyone who has played through them. This will make like six 5w amps I now own, 4 being tube amps, including to 1950s Masco's. I don't really need that many 5w amps, so If the Hoodoo is worth having, I might want to sell one of the Masco's. ---------- And I Thank You !! KCz Backwoodz Bluz

I had one; IMHO, they are awful. They are too raspy, and the master volume makes it difficult to dial in a good sound. I sold mine pretty quickly. But you got a good price; that should be some consolation.

It's junk. Thin and shrill sounding.

Worst. Harp. Amp. Ever.
Seriously. Return it. Get a Memphis Mini or order Lone Wolf's new Harp Train 10. Or wait for a Kalamazoo. But the HooDoo is a waste of money at any price. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg

Thanks for the review. This is the response I expected. I'm sure I can cancel the order. I had to make a quick decision on this one and usually quick decisions are wrong decisions. Thanks again!!! Order Canceled, this forum "Rocks!" ---------- And I Thank You !! KCz Backwoodz Bluz

At around the $200 level, you can find a VHT Special Six, which is a much better harp amp.

Have read this post and a previous one concerning 5-10w amps with interest. The VHT Special 6 keeps coming up as a recommended tube amp. Just a quick search on the net produces several people offering mod kits to voice this amp specific to harmonica. Not a problem, but my question is this can anyone recommend an inexpensive off the shelf solid state amp. Or is this the "holy Grail" that we all seek?

@poitou
The Fender Frontman series tend to have good results for harp, at least the smaller ones do. Also, used pre-Transtube Peavey Bandits and Envoys are very tasty for the money. ----------
