As many here know, two years ago I uploaded a series of 12 one-hour video lectures on blues themes under the rubric "Blues Talk." Those lectures are still on YouTube and they can all be accessed through the Blues Talk page on this website. (It's located down near the bottom of the index.)

After several requests, I finally converted the videos to mp3 form (192 mb/sec) and am making them available as a big zip file for the price of $5.

They're perfect for long drives or long walks (or runs).

Blues Talk lectures

Topics covered in each lecture are as follows:

Blues Talk 1: starting the conversation

Blues Talk 2: blues conditions

Blues Talk 3: "bluesmen," "folkloric melancholy," and blues feelings

Blues Talk 4: blues expressiveness and the blues ethos

Blues Talk 5: W.C. Handy and the "birth" of the blues

Blues Talk 6: Langston Hughes and early blues poetry

Blues Talk 7: Zora Neale Hurston and southern blues culture

Blues Talk 8: the devil and the blues, Part I

Blues Talk 9: the devil and the blues, Part II

Blues Talk 10: blues form, portraiture, and power

Blues Talk 11: the blues revival and the Black Arts movement

Blues Talk 12: blues and the postmodern condition

I've been working my way through them while doing dishes (yes, the old-fashioned way, by hand!). A very enjoyable (not to mention informative) series of lectures indeed!
