Several people responded to my to query (Alternate/easier amp rig), recommending the Lone Wolf Harp Attack as a useful alternative to the full amp rig, in a "jam" situation. I actually have a Harp Attack, but haven't been able to figure out how to really use it - and there never seems to be enough time to experiment with it, when I need it. The instructions are not very helpful. I'd like to hear how players actually set up the Harp Attack, when they use it. I wouldn't mind copying somebody's setup, to get started. A couple of specific questions: does everybody bring their own DI box? What settings do you ask for, on the mixer? Any input would be useful.

I set mine with the drive at the 9 o'clock position (a quarter on), tone is set the same and the volume up anywhere between 12 o'clock (half on) to full. I set the PA channel with the treble at 10-11 o'clock, mid at 12 o'clock and bass around 1-2 o'clock. Sometimes I use a DI box, sometimes I don't it all depends on the PA. I usually try without a DI box first and then if it's too distorted I'll use a DI box.
Here's what I sound like at a jam session using a Shure controlled magnetic element, into the Harp Attack and then direct into the PA.

I always try to recommend a DI box to avoid noises and hums associated with running instrument line level any stretch of distance over twenty feet. It isn't nearly as big of a deal if the PA is on stage with you, or if the venue is really small. Kingley's suggestions on when to use one are spot on. I usually suggest you get the PA EQ'd flat, but judging by the video clip, Kingley's suggestion clearly produces a pleasing result. ---------- --Nathan Heck Lead Technician, Lone Wolf Blues Co. customerservice@lonewolfblues.com
