Riding quite high on the charts right now is a record called CHROMATICISM by a player named Big Harp George. He's never been talked about here. I like what I hear on this first video that popped up. Please discuss and post videos:

Here's the bio page on his website:

CHROMATICISM is a great CD ! George has a very fresh approach to the chromatic harmonica. The CD is all chromatic harmonica in several positions (3rd, 1st and 2nd) except for one song.

His album garnered him a Best New Artist Album nomination at the just-announced 2015 Blues Music Awards. He must be doing something right.

I'm surprised that none of our West Coast forum members have contributed to this thread.

I will. I met him the day he recorded that CD at Kid Andersen's place. I haven't seen him before that day or afterward. I've asked several full time musician friends that gig all over the Bay Area, if they know who he is. No one has ever seen him around. His playing is good enough where he would be remembered by people other that just the harmonica heads.

Oh, I met him at Aki's jam. He didn't play. He was just observing. So, the only thing that I have heard about him is that he has a CD out that is garnering critical acclaim. I have read some of the articles about him. I am kind of surprised that I have never run into him and few, if any, of my friends have. The next I see Hummel, I will ask him about Big George.

He is one of David Barrett's students. He won one of David's contests and played the song at one of Hummel's blowouts where he meet most of the guys on that recording.

bump.
Just wanted to give our west coast friends or anyone else a chance to weigh in or discover this artist.

I am always intrigued when an artist like George is nominated for New Artist Album of the Year by the Blues Foundation and they are eligible for AARP! Last year, a local CT guitarist named Paul Gabriel received the same nod after playing for many years. In Paul case, his album was produced by Duke Robillard, not to shabby for a "no-name" to hook up with such a great and respected artist. The same seems to be true with George as he is hooked in Kid Anderson.

Very cool and this type of thing could seem to only happen within the Blues genre.

Congrats George!!!
