A good friend of mine will be in London between Dec 28--Jan 5 and will be looking for opportunities to hear harp-driven blues and to jam. He is a local pro and an awesome player (Tom Townsley) Any suggestions?? ----------

I've heard him before - excellent player. Shame I'll be out of town for most of that time

Hi Pharpo.
There's a few great places in London worth checking out.
Ain't Nothin' but – This is the best blues club in London IMHO – http://www.aintnothinbut.co.uk Live blues music every night of the week Jam nights: Sunday 4pm – 8pm and Monday nights from 8pm until late. It's a great cub but very popular and very small so would advise getting there early or you might end up queuing for ages to get in.
The Blues Kitchen – http://theblueskitchen.com I've only been to the Camden one (Shoreditch venue is fairly new). This tend not to be strictly just blues (although there's plenty of it), but other sorts of american music too. Jam at the Camden one is Sunday afternoon / evening.
Ally Cats – http://www.alleycatbar.co.uk This is an all purpose venue but has a great jam on Wednesday evenings. There's usually a pretty high quality bunch of musicians come to this one.
Round Midnight – http://www.roundmidnightbar.com This is a blues and Jazz club. Live music every night. Blues jam is on Tuesdays.
For me these are the top four worth checking out and all fairly central – as central as you can get in London.

I have a trio of gigs in London, Jan. 2, 3 & 4. The ones on the 2nd & 4th are at the same venue - The Magic Garden in Battersea, and the one on the 3rd is at the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham. No jamming opportunities on the 2nd & 3rd but he's welcome to play a few with us on the 4th.
[edit]: The first two gigs are this band: Bucucrasu and the last one is a quartet version of my duo Sayer`n`Slim

Coach & Horses has a good blues jam and they have a great harp amp!
Ain't nothin' but: The musicians are not always so good. The houseband is not so great. It's not so fun to jam there. Harp players are not allowed to play thru amps or pedals. But the beer is good, it's a nice place and there are younger people and more women than the other blues places.
