A fine version of the song. The harp is spot on and classic Wilson, as is the vocal, which is unique and haunting. He was an under rated singer.

It's probably just as likely that it was a C harp and the recording is running half a step too slow. Happened a lot to the older recordings.

Had to buy Best of Canned Heat for this tune and another called 'Time Was.' Even today Owls harp work is so creative. Outstanding!. And I've always loved his odd "haunting" vocal style. Original in several ways. Don't forget he played guitar and flute too.

I love Alan Wilson - everything he did - great vocals, harp and slide. As others said, he had a haunting vocal style that sends chills up my spine. To me, it is somewhat reminiscent of Tommy Johnson's vocals which wouldn't be surprising given Wilson's interest in blues of that era. Here is Johnson's Big Road Blues -

Interesting thing about the Canned Heat album cover. The ingredients for making canned heat are on the table and this is the second version of the cover because Sterno made them black out their name on the Sterno cans. Oh, and the image is reversed.

Blind Owl could also swing. Here's a great track from Canned Heat's "Future Blues" album:

Maybe he choose to play that tune in F# because it suited better with his voice ?
