I have just learned, quite easily, Magic Dick's high end Whammer Jammer lick. You know the one. His signature? After 40 years of wondering, trying it out and thinking it was a technical trick I picked it up in three minutes of reading, dissecting and then actually tasting it.

So I'm ready to make a video and write a book. I'm excited. But I need crowd approval. If I don't feel the love I'm gonna crawl back into my cave, cover the cave opening with brush, and learn the rest of the song.

When I emerge, hopefully I'll have that whole masterpiece in one of my sets. Maybe even something new!

That is how I define my blues progression. Maybe it's a regression in the purist sense of blues because, in my case, when the Rock n Roll albums skipped idly at the end I awoke to a beat and imagined notes I had only vaguely dreamed. SBII and now Jerry McCain, a fellow Irishman, fill that vivid void so perfectly.

Not sure if I don't get the joke (I'm not a native english speaker) or you got to give me your dealer's number.

@Martic - If you caught an inkling of humor I'm happy the nuns failed to smack the last joke out me in elementary school. I miss Frank! [What is your native tongue? Your English is very good.]

And, sorry, but you will need to consult a spiritualist to contact my best dealers. The rest can be found in various churches seeking redemption and are no longer holding. I'm strictly Bud these days.

But my point: Harp is the center of a circular community. There is a lot of activity within but mingling outside is touch and go. If Charlie Musslewhite started dating Taylor Swift we would see a spike in popularity.

Thanks, I speak spanish :P

Damn, things hasn't been good this days. I'm a little stressed and my dealers are all sold out. Legalize NOW PLZ!!

Well, alright... Let's get to the topic.

The other day I was thinking about what you point here: most top harmonica players today (Jason Ricci, Charlie Musselwhite, Dennis Gruenling, etc.) are only known (not famous) in the underground circuit while, on the other side, all mainstream-famous harmonica players (Bob Dylan, Steven Tyler, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant) are passable, good but not great, or, with all respect, just bad players.

Anyway, I don't think about it as a bad thing. I like the fact my blues harp idols are not appearing on Rolling Stones magazine or E! Entertainment TV. I've seen Billy Branch, Bob Stroger, Flavio Guimaraes and next week I'm going to see Jerry Portnoy, and one thing I've always liked is talk to them after the concert, let them know how I liked the concert and ask them for any advice on music. If they were "famous" I couldn't do that. I appreciate the close distance the underground's little fame gives to our blues harp masters.
