Is perfect, and the harp playing is awesome.

This is my favorite song in the world. Not the BB King version, I love THIS song!!!

Enjoy!!

I enjoyed it. But...Dennis, keep practicing and maybe they'll let you play on stage! Really nice job!

Good playing all around. Harp guy knows when to lay out.
Two telecasters, I love it. This stage reminds me of the Viking Bar in Mpls., you had to kind of line up behind each other. Dave W

I actually try not to reply to posts asking for critique and the like, they are not usually particularly productive and often end up in people being offended. Fundamentally it should be possible to use a forum such as this to ask for feedback but the internet is a fickle thing and people often say things here they wouldn't normally FTF.

I am guessing Dennis (who I assume is maybe the op and/or the harp player) is either joking with his title of the thread, being provocative or truly believes this is incredibly good.

The singer can really sing, no question! Wow! Some great talent here. BUT it is possible to be over-committed. This is such a case. Again, only supposition, but I'm guessing this is a jam set at a local club where the singer is trying to fire up the band and the crowd. He oversings quite a lot where he would be better off stepping back. A phenomenon we have all been guilty of at jams (and gigs.) Ultimately, it detracts from great vocals.

The guitarists are only "ok". Uninteresting solos and uninspired accompaniment but they don't get in the way. Dennis, please don't be offended, does a solid job. Certainly one of two players on stage (or not in this case) trying to make a statement. Not earth-shattering but fine. Drummer and bass not exactly dynamic and totally interchangeable with any average musicians in almost any local scene. The band needs to open their ears and play together - they don't actually 'say' much.

If Dennis and others think this is the best thing since sliced bread, so be it. That's fine. I am sure I like things that many others don't. But let's try and be reasonable in our grasp on reality. Comparing this so favorably to the Roy Hawkins or BB King version is extremely brave.

Now I'll try to bite my tongue more in future.

The OP is NOT Dennis whose MBH handle is BigD or something like that.

Little roger as hvyj rightly states, the OP is not Dennis. If you search YouTube there's quite a lot of footage of Dennis Moriarty playing and it demonstrates that he's a very good player with some interesting musical ideas. Especially his third position work. If anything I've always found that Dennis Moriarty, plays down his talent. He backs lots of pro singers in the NYC scene. I'd urge you to check out his work on YouTube.

The notion that this is the best cover OF the universe is so cosmologically challenging that it´s quite unfathomable -- but I´m trying to take it in.

As to it being the best cover IN the universe it´s not, I believe in Dennis´ nature to make such a claim. (But it beats "sliced bread": it´s quite easy to slice your own bread.)

Of course Dennis cannot be faulted for this singer´s "over-commitment", in Little roger´s words. I think he kicks the song into a corner where it does not belong, and one actually wishes for him to just sit down, relax, have a few tranquilizers and a nice cuppa.

Dennis playing and sound is excellent, and merits from the shrewd shifting of positions. As Kingley says. lots of good stuff with Dennis on YT. (Myself I´d go for 5th here, but it´s nice when people think differently and carries it off.)

Very nice harp- not a fan of the singer

Not a pimple on BB KING's ample ass

I think some iconic songs should not be covered unless you have a new twist but thats just me.

Here is a version I really dig- cause he does it in his own style but with homage tambien. yo te digo una cosa mami . Azucar !

"I think some iconic songs should not be covered unless you have a new twist but thats just me."

this strikes me as an odd notion. do you mean we shouldn't play it or shouldn't post video of it if we do, or just that we shouldn't claim that video is the best one if it's not justified?

" just that we shouldn't claim that video is the best one if it's not justified?"

Yep

Of course- the next thing is " who is the judge ?"

I think the hyperbole of greatest version ever is the issue- but of course its all really pissing in the wind. You like what you like

Ha......I've been away attending to other areas of my life and thought I'd check in. I love Scout (the singer). We were hanging out last night after a show I do each week and will do a show together this month. The video is from a hybrid night where the bands singer backed out so I had the big guy (Big Ed Sullivan) play some guitar and sing. Scout was a friend I invited - there's such mixed energy on the stage for that song. Some of us need Prozac and some need Lithium...But it was fun....and I'm kind of focused on the audience enjoying themselves and they did! You'll never read me saying I'm a great harp player but I am musical and I love music and the audiences tap their feet and snap their fingers. I'm a lucky guy! My best. d
