I have just posted on this forum after a long absence and am deeply upset by the attitude on Jack is dead thread.

I knew the guy and he was beautiful, love and peace

Welcome back Nick. The atmosphere on the forum has been laced with high tension as of late.

I haven't noticed the tension, but perhaps I'm missing something.

I did, however, notice two longterm forum members completely lose it in the Jack Bruce thread, which is why I locked it and banished them for a week.

I think the forum has been a pretty decent and well-behaved place as of late.

"I haven't noticed the tension, but perhaps I'm missing something."

Well....as long as I've been posting here, I don't think I've seen quite such a rash of locked topics as I have in the last month or two....or for that matter, how many folks have been bounced or suspended from the forum as I've seen over the course of this year. Not criticizing you or Nate's methods of moderation or anything Adam. Just saying it seems like folks' noses are far more apt to get bent out of shape at a moment's notice right now, for whatever reason.

Just an observation on my part...

Jack's voice was that bigger than life one, like the voice in early King Crimson, ELP and Procol Harum.

Greg Lake in early King Crimson and of course ELP. Great singer and very accomplished on guitars and bass.

Hey guys, if you are not aware of the albums Songs for a Tailor and Harmony Row, check 'em out--classic Bruce/Brown stuff--
Here's the first one, minimal harp content--I love this guy . . .

Thanks Nick for speaking up.

Jack Bruce was a talented, innovative musician. He and Cream changed the course of rock music, and had a huge influence on many major groups to follow. On a personal level, Cream was an important part of the soundtrack of my youth, and one of a handful of bands that got me passionately addicted to music. It is sad to see him pass.

To say that drug & alcohol abuse got him at 71 is pretty damn weird. Maybe it was too much pizza.

I think it was just inferred that too much drugs and alcohol, a stereotypical diet for musicians of that time, was the cause of the faulty liver.
If pizza does the same, I got 3 things going against me, now!
(If someone says, "chocolate does it, too", I will be using some banishment type words.)

Nick, did you say that you knew Jack Bruce? That's pretty awesome. Did you ever get to jam with him?

Correct if I'm not exactly right, but one time I thought I heard on an interview that he made a million dollar song out of (or just from the notes in the scale in succession)practicing the G blues scale along with chord tone notes.. the lyrics "lonely and blue" come to mind when thinking of the song, not knowing the title...

It was Jack himself in interviews that said his earlier heroin addiction caused his liver disease.

He was an incredibly versatile musician and by all accounts a real nice guy-even going so far as to form a second band with Ginger Baker even tho they disliked each other. Just a case of music first where they each knew they brought out the best in each other despite differences

That is a real pro

Hep C, lots of booze = liver cancer. He had a transplant in 2003.

I've lost a few to hep C. One error in judgement can come back to haunt 30-40 years later with no symptoms in between.

Yep thats some bad stuff. One of my guitar playing buddies is going thru that now and on the transplant list

Just for giggles here we are goofing because the bass player was late. We hadnt played this song before and it kinda just popped out.
Get well Billy !!
