Hi folks, Just signed up today so I'm throwing out a hello to everyone and introducing myself.

I've been in contact with Adam a number of times, partly in conjunction with my book - Head, Hands & Feet - A Book of One Man Bands - available through me http://onemanbandbook.blogspot.ca/. Adam has a substantial entry in it, as is well deserved, as one of the only harp/drums one man bands. Many other excellent harp players are also included from earlier blues guys such as Joe Hill Louis and Dr Ross to modern guys like Tobias Volkamer and Hal Walker. Over 900 one man bands included with over 1200 photos/images (in over 400 full size/full colour pages). A worthy addition to any music book collection or library!

Beyond the book, I'm a one man band myself, developed over many years as a busker, here in Victoria BC, Canada. I play harp, mostly in the rack, guitars, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass (and fotdella - foot operated bass) and drums (including Pete Farmer's fabulous Farmer Foot Drums). I've been busking since 1977, making my living from it almost exclusively.

I'm a blues fanatic (have well over 4,000 blues LPs and hundreds of CDs and tapes as well). I run several facebook groups relating to blues and one man bands. I'm not well known though. My youtube channel has a meager 250,000 hits over five years. One or two of the videos have made the rounds here, I believe, thanks to Adam's promotion.

I have a substantial harp collection too, mostly diatonics but some orchestral and chromatics. I seldom get to use some of them (they aren't rack instruments) except on overdubbed recordings. I love using Hohner Auto-Valves for Cajun/Zydeco type songs or more recently Seydel Concertos. I'm very comfortable in first position from years of playing other styles than blues and Jimmy Reed is a personal favourite. I do love second position too - Sonny Terry, Little Walter, the usual suspects.

So, no big point to all of this. Just happy to join like-minded people here. Hopefully I can add another viewpoint in some discussions. A big thanks to Adam for all he's done in the world of harp music/blues scholarship/teaching etc!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Warm welcome to you, Dave! We're lucky to have you aboard. You're a triple threat in the best way: a fantastic and wide-ranging player (I love your zydeco stuff as well as the country blues), a one-man-band extraordinaire (a few of us here adventure in that world), and, not least, the author of a big, richly illustrated, and definitive book on OMBs.

As you're find out if you don't know already, we're sometimes a spiky bunch. Nobody who has spent more than a couple of days here would accuse this forum of being a well-behaved place, much less a love-fest. Please be forewarned! If I let them know in advance that you're my personal friend, as I'm doing right now, you'll get a brief grace period. Then....good luck! :)

Hi Dave. I have seen your channel after seeing it discussed here. Great stuff. I am a fledgling busker (been doing it for three years) and transplanted Canuck in Oz. Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Hi Dave, welcome to the forum. We're from the same corner of the continent. I'm in Prince Rupert. A few years ago, you let me and my harp sit in with you one night at Swans Hotel. You liked the fact I could comfortably lay out for 12 bars here and there before jumping in again.

I played with John Hunter and Greg Kennedy in the 70s.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on anything blues related, not just harmonica.

Cheers,
