I changed tranformers with elements from Shure Green Bullet 520DX and Hohner Blues Blaster mic, watch video:

Information about Harp-Aholic:
eBay user name is Harp-Aholic and the store is HarpCentral, as is the website www.HarpCentral.com home of www.HarpMicGaskets.com , www.CustomHarpCases.com and www.BluesHarpMics.com

I played Hohner Marine Band DeLuxe harmonica in A.

Tweed amplifier at the start of the video and in the end: Fender EC Vibro-Champ Eric Clapton Signatur. 5 watts. 8 inch Weber alnico speaker.

Very small amplifier on the table: Yamaha THR10.

Great Vid there Hakan. In the final showdown I liked the DX element in the Astaic shell best. It was warmer then the Crystal. Your old original mic seemed thin in comparison to the later ones. Just my opinion of corse. What you are doing here is showing us some options and procedures for simple experiments. Your work is inspirational.
I wonder how those transformers would test on an oscilloscope and audio generator.
Do you find that the upgraded transformer effects feedback levels? Thanks Hawk, nice work...BN

Thanks BN. I am not so sure it was a crystal I removed from the Hohner Blues Blaster, I could have been wrong, maybe it was a dynamic element?

The earlier Blaster I bought had a small japanese crystal element, it was flat and with a very thin sound without the foam. But this one was black and it was a transformer attached to it. Are transformers really used for crystal elements?

You shouldn't need a transformer for a crystal OR the 520DX element unless you want to connect them to a low impedance input. They are both high impedance elements. But that doesn't mean you can't try it - it won't hurt anything and it will typically change the tone and output level.

Thanks Greg. Then it's probably was a crystal element after all.

BN: in the final test the 2nd mic had a tendency to feedback a little. But the output was probably higher than the other mics. I had the same level on the amp all time time (of course).
